I have run this marathon before, and this is by far the best yet. Eliminating the agonizing hills, two beautiful loops, being able to start early. I look forward to next year.

I have run this race 5 times and have enjoyed it every time. The weather can be an issue some years, but this year it was a beautiful 50 degrees at the start. The race is small, so if you're looking for one of those Mega-races with bands every 100 feet, this is not for you. However, if you are looking for a marathon that takes care of the runners, this is it.

Frank is a great race director and host. The post race food is awesome (pizza and donuts) and the course is a nice run through a beautiful park.

Loved the opportunity to start at 6 or 7. Enjoyed the new course 100x more without the big hill by the dam. Always family friendly and can park right at start line

This was my first marathon and I'll definitely be back next year.

Brushy Creek Park is my favorite park and October is my favorite time of year so I was excited to participate. Unfortunately I became injured while training and was not cleared to run. I decided to participate anyway (walking) and had a blast.

The event allowed for an early start (which gave me time to finish around cutoff time, thank goodness). The course consisted of 2 loops, so I was able to recognize some of the other participants and smile and wave as we passed each other. They cap this at 150 people I believe, so even with this marathon (and a 5k going on within the course) and other people doing stuff in the park, it never felt crowded.

The water/Gatorade stations (and the restrooms) were plentiful and all the volunteers offered encouraging words. I expected the volunteers to be packed up & gone on my way to the finish line, since I was one of the last people, but nope. There was even donuts & pizza left when I finally finished.

For the most part, the course was well organized, though I did get a bit turned around in one spot and I think more arrows and signs could have been helpful.

The shirt & socks were really cool too. The shirt is one of those soft, tri-blend types that I love and the socks have Frankenstein's monster on them! :)

Do yourself a favor and sign up for this one!

Packet pickup was friendly and efficient. The course was well marked with accurate mile markers. Minimal elevation changes with lots of curves/turns and scenery changes helped keep it interesting. Water points were plentiful and open for the early start walkers. The only negatives were: except for the enthusiastic volunteers and supporters, there were almost no spectators and it was 3 laps of double out-and-back. Of course the trade-off is that runners having problems could easily drop out and supporters could watch their runner go by 5 times. The city park setting allowed kids to play while waiting. After run refreshments were plentiful and delicious. I rarely run the same race more than once, but I hope to run this one again.
Warning: there are two adjacent parks with the same name. MapQuest sent me to the wrong one. Double-check your directions.

This was my 1st marathon and thrilled I chose this one out of so many in the Austin area. The atmosphere was GREAT! It was a small marathon around 150 runners and everyone was so nice and friendly. It was nice to see runners pushing each other on especially on that last loop. It was fantastic that friends and family could join you as they pleased. Nice SWAG!!!

"A nice, pure event for those who just want to run" (about: 2014)

Though I've competed in and organized many racing events over the years, I'm a 'once and done' marathoner so I don't have the acquired knowledge it would take to compare this particular marathon to other full marathons. But I still have strong, positive opinions regarding Frank Livaudais's Frankenthon Marathon.

The organizers couldn't have been nicer or better prepared. The post-race treats were delightful. The medals and AG awards were custom and memorable. Free massages were nice. Beer and pizza? You bet! Chocolate at the aid stations? Nice! (I probably would have added some pumping music at the beginning and at the finish, and also offered chocolate milk as a post-race beverage, but that's just a personal preference and a recommendation rather than a complaint for sure.)

The course was pretty. I wouldn't call it 'flat', though it was flatter than many. Running the loop three times proved to be both helpful (learning where the hills, aid stations, finish line, etc were located) as well as a bit redundant. But I think the fact that there were no cambered streets to have to stay in the middle of to avoid the extra leg strain far outweighed any negative. Early on, a beautiful buck crossed the path right in front of me and I enjoyed the squirrels all morning. Parking was the easiest and only yards away from the bathrooms and starting line. Can't beat that when you're nervous in the morning.

The tech shirt is my favorite! I usually give my race shirts to my hubby to work in, but not this one! The free socks are cool and I'm using my koozie with pride.

If you just want to run, without the enormous fees, long lines, corrals, etc., then this is the event for you.

This is the first year that I ran this race, and I will definitely return. The organizers did a fantastic job. I was able to park right at the start line, pick up my race packet an hour before the race starts, and use a real rest room. The shirt and socks were awesome. Tons of pizza/donuts/chips/beer/soda at the finish line. The entire time, I felt like I was just doing my Sunday morning run in the trails next to the occasional walkers/runners/cyclists. With the 3 loops, you get to see familiar faces and encourage each other. Love the course as well. Not too many spectators, but they were all very supportive (even the bystanders who were fishing in the pond nearby)! I was able to finish the race and make it to my daughter's soccer game right on time!

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I started running at age 47 and my goal was to run a marathon at 50. I chose Frankenthon because it was small and had great reviews for first time marathoners. I had a great time and most definitely want to run it again next year.
