"Awesome course, awesome race!" (about: 2009)

Frank did an absolutely superb job as the race director for this race. It's my understanding that he's an experienced marathoner (100+ marathons) himself, so you would expect someone like that to know how to put on a great race. And he did just that. We ran three loops, mostly on concrete, but with some dirt and gravel trails mixed in as well. It was fairly flat, with a couple of small hills thrown in there. There's ample shade, as the course is in a park. The aid station volunteers had great attitudes and were very helpful. The Running Gods gave us 50 degrees at the start, 70 degrees at the finish. Mother Nature left a little water on the course so we ran with wet shoes, but I still enjoyed the race a great deal. Awesome tech shirt and socks in the goody bag. Lots of food, pizza, doughnuts, sodas, etc. This was marathon number 10 for me, and I will definitely be back to do this one again. One of my favorites. Nice job, Frank! Thanks for making it a great day for us!

"Race organized by a runner for runners" (about: 2009)

I cannot say enough about this race. Initially, I was a little concerned with running the same loop three times, but this was actually one of the things I liked about the race. The loop broke up the distance nicely, and since it was a small race, it allowed the runners to see their fans several times.

The course was pretty flat and extremely beautiful. The only negative was that there was some water on the trail due to the heavy rains the area had in the weeks leading up to it. This was a minor inconvenience.

Post-race was perfect, with plenty of food and drinks for everyone! I will definitely run next year.

"Nice, Small, Hometown Race" (about: 2009)

The weather was extremely kind. Cloudless sky, cool and no rain. Parts of the course were under a lot of water earlier in the week, and the city of Cedar Park did a great job getting it back in shape. There was only one section with about an inch of water that was enough to soak my feet.

Mostly cement course with some aggregate. Small hills but nothing challenging. Nice scenery. Started when it was still dark and it was hard to see what was on the ground for the first quarter-mile or so. On a warm day it could be challenging because there isn't an abundance of shade. Great organization and great post-race pizza feast. It was nice seeing times broken into thirds. No complaints, but the race needs to stay small or the trail could get too crowded. We shared the trail with folks on their morning walks and bike rides. The socks and shirts for participants are terrific. There was full-strength Gatorade at the appropriately spaced aid stations. No complaints. I wish I could run that race every weekend.

"Awesome course with friendly folks" (about: 2009)

Great race! A friend and I did it just as a training run and my friend had a nine-minute PR! I loved the layout of the course. I was worried about the loops, but it seemed like each time you noticed different things. It also helped you break up the run in to 6 easy parts. I also loved seeing the results and seeing the times per loop. Frank is such a nice guy. The participants were also very nice. Everyone was telling each other "Nice job" as we passed on the out-and-backs. I'll be back for sure next year and be shooting for the BQ. :)

Park 100 yards from the start/finish line. Run in surprisingly scenic and diverse urban park. Say hi to your fellow runners several times as you pass them on the three loops. Enjoy the well-stocked aid stations. Feed your face with pizza, donuts and other post-race food. Go home with excellent shirt and socks, and a smile on your face. Excellent organization all round.

"Perfect small-town marathon" (about: 2009)

Easy parking, beautiful course, no lines for toilets that flush.

I set a 14-minute PR on this course. The small number of participants allows you to run your own race, but you are never isolated - there's continual support and encouragement due to the nature of the multiple loops and out-and-back structure.

Plenty of aid stops and great food at the end.

"Really well done" (about: 2009)

I came in expecting a good, long training run and I got a great event. The course was really neat (I don't mind pavement and the trail is OK too), and just varied enough to engage your mind without wearing you out. Great swag, cool awards, lots of food, lots of camaraderie. Lots of folks ran BQ times, so it was as fast as advertised. Not a lot of crowd support, but there was always another runner to cheer you one. This one is a must-do, either running or volunteering.

The convenience, open course, and support made this an awesome experience. My family and friends were able to share the experience with me. I will be back next year to run it again.

Wow...

The race director is a fast marathon runner and it makes a difference. He knows how to organize a race and what marathoners need. This was my 160st marathon and a perfect one. And I placed third overall among women, with a time of 3:49:19. The course featured three out-and-backs, which means you cross the start line mat three times - giving you a good idea of how you were doing.

The only suggestion I have for next year is look in to the area with water crossing and come up with a solution so we don't have to run with wet shoes. (Also scrub that area so it wouldn't be so slippery.)

Great job directing a perfect marathon

"A runner's marathon" (about: 2009)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Frankenthon Monster Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

This was an amazing marathon. It does NOT have a lot of spectators, but it does have two out-and-backs, so all of the runners cheer for each other. The director has run almost 100 marathons, and knows what runners need/want in a marathon. Nothing was overlooked. We got a cool long-sleeved tech shirt AND tech socks. There was pizza and doughnuts at the finish.

The only negative was that there was cement on the course. The other half was soft granite though.

I will be back next year.
