"Fantastic race. Minor hiccups." (about: 2014)

1) I would definitely keep this course as a 2-loop. Or, more specifically, keep the 2nd loop going through the Sts streets, downtown, oil center, etc. (even if not the exact same route as 1st loop). There are already spectators in those areas, and it is very scenic. (also, the prospect of headed out down Congress, away from the 'heart' of the race for the 2nd half would be dispiriting).
2) Ran out of water towards the end of the marathon.
3) I know someone (not myself) was informed that there would be 'Zydeco bars' provided on the route. He packed accordingly. :(
4) I heard one of the 'med tents' along the course were surprised to hear people asking for salt, Vaseline, etc. Assuming they hadn't ever crewed for a long race before.
5) Salty snacks (pretzels, etc.)would be nice to see towards the end of the race.
6) The after-festival was great, there were ample tickets on my bib. Glad to see that area utilized!
7) VERY well done, folks. You should be very proud of yourselves. Way to show off Lafayette!

"Great Race - Very Organized!" (about: 2014)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Zydeco Marathon

I was very excited to have the Zydeco marathon in our great city. It was a great experience! The people of Lafayette embraced the race as many people were lined up to cheer the runners on. The course was flat and fast. The weather this year was nice and cool. Future years may prove to be warmer. Organization was amazing! Especially considering it was the 1st year. I was impressed! I will definitely run it again and/or volunteer to help!

"Great community involvement and very well run" (about: 2014)

I thought that the organizers did an AMAZING job for a first time race. They promoted the event incredibly well; I don't think there was any stretch of the run where I didn't see at least one spectator cheering. The only MINOR gripe I can make it concerning the amount of overlapping in the course, but I realize that is a more logistical issue with maintaining traffic.

"Great inaugural race" (about: 2014)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Zydeco Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

DISCLAIMER: I only ran the 1/2 but had friends in the full. I was worried when I found out this was an inaugural event. Feared that it would be a mess, very pleased with how it was done, I hope to do this one again. The volunteers and police were super, the course crossed a couple of main thoroughfares and the police were doing a great job controlling folks who were wishing to get to church (very important down here in the south). Volunteers were all over the course waving, cheering and assisting. Local crowd thinned out for the second lap, but were very vocal early. Even had a live band on some home-owners porch blasting 'Eye of the Tiger' at 8:00am. Expo was small but very neat and clean. Only recommendation I have are: Have a professional photographer after the medals to get a nice picture with the medal. Sell polo type shirts with the Zydeco crest for folks who want to have a shirt to show off at school/work and can't wear t-shirts.
