Nice flat course, good cheering crowds....
Negatives:
1. You need different tables for check in for 1/2 and full the lines were incredible.
2. Would have been nice to have split times at the mile marks.
3. 2 days later, I STILL DON'T KNOW MY FINISHING TIME!!!!

"Well organized run!" (about: 2014)

This was a well planned event that grew quickly. I found plenty of volunteers along the route, as well as family and friends that came out to support the runners. The setting for the after-party was a short walk to a nice grassy area. The Expo/packet pick-up featured a large variety of vendors for a first run marathon.

I think you guys did an outstanding job with the Zydeco. I stood at the finish line well into the race watching the runners come through. I want to bring to your attention that next year you all need a paramedic or doctor at the finish line evaluating the runners as they come thru. There were several that were disoriented including one of the first 5 marathoners. One so bad that I had to help him find his wife. There really needs to be some knowledgeable and competent medical staff at the finish line. I think overall you guys are awesome!

"Awesome First Half Marathon" (about: 2014)

This was my first half marathon. I must say that this race was so well organized from beginning to end. It was an incredible route, the spectators were top notch a s very encouraging. All those at the water stops were great. I will do this again next year. The celebration at the end was incredible, I felt like I was at a festival. Thanks to the organizers for doing so a spectacular job. I can't say enough wonderful things about this. A+

"Awesome!" (about: 2014)

I was so excited to hear that Lafayette was having their first Marathon! I was kind of concerned hearing that the full was a double loop however once on the course it wasn't as bad as I was thinking. The support along the first 13 miles was awesome then dwindled down some during the second loop. When I stopped at the med tent asking for the salt the young lady actually opened her ham for lunch and shared with me. Overall the experience for the first race was great, much better then I was expecting.
Just a few things I would take into consideration for next year.
Corrals would make the start smoother.
PA system in the back of the crowd. Many didn't stop talking during the national anthem since they couldn't hear.
Pictures at the end of the race with medals.
Having GU available during the race or some type of fuel.
Offering Powerade first then water

I really loved the overall experience of running Zydeco! It wasn't nearly as crowded as my previous Marathons which made it more special. Having my family right there at the finish line when I ran through was a treat. The overall quaintness of the race and town made this by far the best Marathon I have ran!

May need Another beer truck and they ran out of water for marathon finishers. Wish they had more entertainment during route. Guess that comes with more years. I will be back next year for sure!!!!!

this was a fantastic event! very well organized, with great course support from volunteers and the public, a terrific finish fest - couldn't have asked for a better day, and you'd never have known it was the first year! will definitely run it again. a few tiny complaints that in no way diminish the experience:
1) would have loved women's cut finisher shirts instead of unisex.
2) no actual finish line photos
3) no photographer for photos in front of the zydeco backdrop at the end (that was in kind of a weird place, too)
4) course was a bit crowded in places where there were single lanes divided in two for runners going in both directions
5) more portalets at the start
as i said, these are all minor complaints that could improve the experience, but overall it was a terrific race!

First Marathon

NOTHING beats the scenery and enthusiasm of the Lafayette, LA community. The course was beautiful and easy to run, the route was lined by enthusiast spectators. As a rookie 1/2 marathoner, I really have no basis for comparison, but my overall experience was great.

This was my first half-marathon and it was amazing! It was so awesome to have so many people cheering us on, not to mention the amazing volunteers!!! It made me so proud to be from the Acadiana area! I will definitely participate again next year!
