"Nice first year race, room to improve" (about: 2014)

6-10 previous marathons
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

This was a good race and I would return.

Good:
Well organized, smooth packet pick-up, wide running route, mostly nice streets, on-time, water stops were well staffed and we'll run, good post-race food, nice medal, nice to have opportunity to view hall of fame

Areas to improve:
Expo was under-impressive with just 1 store and no real deals. Having the expo throughout the museum didn't work - too cramped, having to walk up a steep hill to get to the bus after running a long race is not a good idea, very limited crowd support outside if water stops, return bus route went through marathon course leading to an extended bus ride (with stiffening up due to extended sitting), combine was a fun idea but the should have stop watches.

Thank you to all the organizers and volunteers! This was a very well organized and fun event with a great turnout for the first running. I'm looking forward to another great race next year!

My only complaint was that after we split from the half it became a ghost town. It picked back up the closer we got to perry. I felt that there should have been more recovery food/drink at the finish lines but other than that I thought it was awesome! Very we'll organized and supported.

"Great course, Shuttle's well done!" (about: 2014)

I arrived 20 minutes before race time and was shuttled over from the Fairgrounds in plenty of time to get in place for the race. Well done with the shuttles! Loved the course. Had a difficult time getting out of Canton after the race, but being the first year, I'm sure you are aware that some work needs done in that area.

"Solid for the 1st Year! Should be a popular race!" (about: 2014)

6-10 previous marathons

I must start by saying I am looking forward to see how this race grows in popularity in the coming years. I thought the overall experience was decent for a smaller first year race.

The poor winter training conditions led to a smalelr field of marathoners as a race official advised many dropped down to the half marathon.

My review:

Expo Grade = C
Would like to see all the vendors around the football field as too confusing within the HOF. Packet pickup needs to be on field entirely as the walk down and back up seemed unnecessary.
[Express pickup was interesting idea] need to mail them out sooner to prevent runners not receiving as they pay for this.

Race Day Parking Grade = D
large lines to get on buses. large empty lots went unused- why not charge $5 extra for those spots and cap at maximum spaces. Many hate having to shuttle to start particularly when you don't arrive until 5 minutes before the start due to backlog of runners at fairgrounds. Spectators should have own buses or be held back until race has started as runners were waiting while spectators got on buses.
**Making runners walk up a steep hill to shuttle post race is just CRUEL**

COURSE GRADE = B-
First half was pleasant. Second hald gruelling with rolling hills and local traffic not regulated as much. Many stretches without officials and only small signs to guide runners.
Would like to see more aid stations on first half.

Swag Grade = A+
Race Shirts were great. 'marathoner' down back is a nice touch.
Medal was fantastic - hope it continues.
Finisher blanket was added bonus as well. Hope that continues.
How about some 'FINISHER' Merchandise?

PASTA DINNER GRADE = B+
Not a huge selection but everything you needed and location was perfect at HOF.

**TIP** Have the finisher photos after the food for the runners as hydration and nourishment should come before the pictures. Only Bananas and water - not enough. How about some chocolate milk / bagels ???

All in all overall grade = B with some easy fixes to make this a GREAT RACE. I will likely do this one again.

For excitement and encouraging spectators, possibly encourage bars along Cleveland ave and Market to open up. This is how the Akron gets their spectators.

I ran this race 6 days after Boston because I wanted to be a part of the inaugural race. It had many unique features that I loved. The medals were awesome, the fleece finishers blanket you receive is fantastic and the finish line inside the stadium is super. It was great to lay around on the turf afterward and enjoy your success with friends! I didn't run this one for time, but I think it would be a great Boston Qualifier as it is fairly flat. Lots of turns to keep your mind occupied and a great downhill at the end. Jim Chaney did an amazing job for a first year race. The course was quiet, but I know spectators will grow as the race becomes more popular.

"A great race overall." (about: 2014)

I just ran this marathon for it's inaugural race this year. I loved the race swag (shirt, medal, blanket). I also loved that you get 2 entries into the Hall of Fame for the weekend. However, what I did not like was that the medics were not visible along the course to me. Someone said they were in cars, but I did not see them and I was looking for them. Other than that, the post race party and finish was great! And so was the crowd support. With regards to the course, I wasn't used to running on the bad streets, being from the south. You had to constantly look down because of the damage that snow/ice/salt had done to the pavement (looking for dips and uneven pavement throughout). The course was very scenic though. I loved the race overall. And I love the recognition that they give to the military.

This was my first half marathon and I thought it was extremely well organized and a first class experience. I am going to make this an annual event on my calendar. I could not be happier with the experience.

"1st marathon less rolling hills & no brick roads" (about: 2014)

First Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

My spectators were turned away from parking at fairgrounds. Being from out of town, they got lost trying to find parking and then stadium. Expo too spread out. Needs to be under one roof. More vendors not just second sole. However with that said, very impressed with event communications, loved the volunteers and their energy, and finishing on the field. Way cool.
