"Great course but needs more people to cheer on." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 2

Organization was OK and the course was great. However, some big problems were for the half. No water stop after mile ten. When you say water stops every two miles, people assume there will be one at mile twelve of a half. Also, I heard that there were stops on the full marathon where they ran out of water. This is really a problem. Lastly, there were a couple of roller bladers who were generally OK but one older guy in what looked like a volunteer yellow jacket who was going faster than the bikers and almost ran some of the runners over racing by. Really rude.

"Excellent Marathon" (about: 2002)

Very well organized. Easy, scenic course. Fantastic volunteers & spectators that kept me motivated throughout the 2002 marathon. Even the weather was great.

"Great experience, good course, and well organized" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Ran last year also. I like having some space where you are either running alone or pacing with a small group. That introspective, quiet time makes the cheers of spectators, the commotion at the water stops and the relay points more bouyant. [Its also fun to encounter over and over friends and family of runners who are racing at about your pace.]

Like having a clock at the 1/2 marthon marker.

Finisher medals are a great design.

"What a beautiful day!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

The organizers sure picked a beautiful western NY day for a short run at the shore. Everyone including the runners were upbeat and friendly which made the fast times that much more fun. See you in 2003 for new personal bests!

"A well organized marathon." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

The organization was top notch. The miles (and 5ks) were well marked. Water stops every two miles. Plenty of road and bike marshalls. There weren't many spectators, but it was easy for me to find the ones that counted - my wife and friends (as compared to the big city marathons). I would recommend this race.

A Runner from Georgia (5/5/2002)
"Good race with excellent volunteers" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

Very well run marathon. Volunteers were EVERYWHERE, and extremely friendly. Bike patrol was a big help. The food after was plentiful and delicious. The course, minus the wind that was in my face the whole way, was flat and scenic. The two girls with American shorts and various signs were entertaining.

"This was a very well organized event ." (about: 2001)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon. I had a great time. It was very well organized with plenty of water and Gatorade stops. All the volunteers were all so friendly and helpful. The course was nice, it might have been more fun if it went through more populated areas where there were more spectators. All in all I had a great time and I'm looking forward to the 2002 marathon.

"Great first time course. I loved the loop!" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I really liked the loop out and back at mile 21 or so, it was fun to see the runners in the mile or two ahead of me and then those in the mile or two behind. I thought that was one of the best parts, although it would have been nice to have seen some 1/4 mile signs saying how far to go to the turnaround cone, at that point in the race the mile out to the cone seemed a bit endless and distance was hard to judge.

"Great time !" (about: 2001)

Hats off to the organizers and volunteers who made this marathon happen. This was my first attempt at the 26.2 mile monster and I'm glad that I chose the OSM to do it. The people that I encountered at the water stations, on the bikes and just spectating were really encouraging. Their support kept me going. I was also pleased with the relatively flat course. Probably the only segment that I didn't like was the 'loop' towards the end of the course-that was tough. Overall, however, this was a great marathon and I would recommend it to anybody. Congratulations to everyone who ran it, especially the first-timers. Again, thanks to everybody who worked to make it all happen. See you next year!

"Very well organized - great course" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This course has a great location as it is close enough to the lake that the cool breezes make the temp, even on a hot day, bearable. This was very well organized with awards and races starting on time. Finish medals were great.
You may look at more individualized awards, however. Instead of just a glass, perhaps 'Winner' or 1st, 2nd, 3rd on them and following up with e-mail or sending an actual certificate or proof of finishing marathon time, i.e, those of us who qualified for Boston need it.
