"The Ontario Shore Marathon was great." (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I am glad I made the Ontario Shore Marathon my first. It could not have been a better experience. I thought the organization was great and the volunteers were really supportive. I wish there were more spectators, but the park was gorgeous. Thanks for such a great experience!

"Flat, fast, and RURAL" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

Very few spectators, but a fast course. The awards were specific this year (as opposed to the comments from '01 saying they should be less general). However, the structure of the awards was somewhat confusing: there was an 'Overall' winner, and then a winner of the 'Open' section. That makes it sound line the 'Open' section winner won the race outright (when in fact they were second overall). Better to just go two or three deep 'Overall' than cloud the issue. That being said, the organization of the race was FANTASTIC! Everything started on time, no delays, friendly volunteers, quick registration... not even a long line for the bathrooms! Available half marathon was sponsored by Galyons Sporting Goods, and gave out significant gift certificates to thier store as prizes.

"GREAT RACE!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This is one of my favorite races. The marathon, half marathon and relays are all very well organized. Water stops and refueling stations were well-staffed and had plenty of goods. The fans were sparse in spots, but EVERYONE involved in this race was so supportive and encouraging. I can't wait for next year!

"Wow" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon. I had no idea what to expect, having only done one 5k and one half-marathon previously. From the early packet pick-up, to race morning, to the water stations and post-race activities, this was a beautifully organized event. I hope that I can run it again next year -- I'm totally hooked!

"Super course." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

Good course, well organized event. Could have used another porta potty stop on the ½ marathon loop if the line at the one I ran past was any indication. I also did not see the fruit after the ½ marathon. There was water but nothing else at the end of the run as far as I could tell.

"Excellent marathon, highly recommended." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Ontario Shore was my 18th marathon. It surpassed my expectations. The weather was perfect, the countryside course flat and fast, volunteers numerous and efficient and the overall organization was very good. Sparse spectators were friendly and supportive. I am sure that Ontario Shore will become one of the major marathon events in NY state.

A big Thank You to the Arthritis Foundation as well as Greg , Karen, Amy and Rich along with the more than 200 volunteers whose hard work and dedication made The Ontario Shore Marathon, truly, a first class running event for the Greater Rochester area. Give yourselves a big pat on the back!

This was my first marathon and I thought the race was very organized. The water stops were well placed and the volunteers and spectators were great! Well done!

"food for the slow runners?" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Very nice run, made almost perfect by the excellent weather. No negative thoughts at all except for the lack of food for the slower runners. Would still highly recommend the race, especially to a first time runner.

"1/2 Marathon Addition - A Plus!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

Thanks for adding an official 1/2 marathon to this event. Based on the 287 finishers, I'd say it was a HUGE success and well received. I was disappointed I couldn't do the full 26.2 this year, but very thankful to have the 13.1 mile option. The course is definitely fast. The only negative is the split from the marathoners at mile 10. It got a little lonely on the Park roads until we got near the finish. Where the spectators were, they were GREAT, but this is not an area that will attract big crowds all along the course. If you're looking for a PR, however, give this one a try.
