"great little marathon" (about: 2002)

| 1 Blue Angel Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I find it disheartening that this marathon has died. I remember the atmosphere of participating in this event in the wake of 9/11, in 2002. It was a great feeling to intermingle with our armed forces and enjoy my passion for running on your great base. The 2002 BAM was my last marathon. (I hope it's my next.)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Great experience! My first marathon since 1987. Good expo, course, aid stations and course monitors, medal, shirt and one of the most reasonably priced events I've seen. I can't really think of anything bad about BAM. Even the weather was perfect. Southern hospitality and military courtesy were in high gear.

"A most enjoyable marathon" (about: 2004)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Blue Angel Marathon
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This was my 40th marathon. I'm now at the point where I prefer the small ones. This was well organized, flat course, and this year the weather could not have been more ideal. Nice pasta party at the Officers Club. The 13 miles on the base was very pleasant. The 11 miles you had to run to enjoy 2 miles in the historic part of Pensacola were not that great. Two loops of the base might be better but I'm sure not going to complain. The F-18 flyover at the start was awesome. It was close enough to make your body shake and the adrenaline boil. This is a must do for any serious marathoner.

"Nice course, not enough runners, too few splits" (about: 2004)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 Fast course, good folks running the show, but it would be great to have more folks participating. Bridge at mile 20 was a little cruel - hitting the wall or falling apart on the bridge?

"F-18's Make Great Start" (about: 2004)
6-10 previous marathons
| 6+ Blue Angel Marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 The course is flat (what bridge?) and the weather was great. The wind was 5-10 and can be much windier near the water this time of year. The start features an F-18 that switches on the afterburner and buzzes by a few times during the first mile. It will get the old adrenaline pumping. Yeah baby. Many people opted for the half-marathon which starts together with the full. There were many Marines along the course directing traffic and ooh-rahing all the runners. There was even a hasher-sponsored beer station at mile 17 and the McGuires Bagpipe Band at mile 18. Overall it was a great race (and I'm not just saying that because I had a PR... hahahaha).

"Nice, flat, windy" (about: 2004)
First Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 My first marathon. Very nice course, particularly the portion on the base. Flyovers were awesome, support from the volunteers was great. Showers available afterward made the drive home more bearable. Only minor complaint would be that the cups offered at the aid stations were too small, just a couple of ounces of liquid each. Super organized, small, patriotic event.

"Cool small marathon, well organized" (about: 2004)

| 1 Blue Angel Marathon
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 As a fan of the Blue Angels, this was a marathon I?ve wanted to run for a few years (but dislike winter training in Chicago). The weather was great this year - sunny with a bit of wind. The course is okay; the roads are pitched to the gutter/curb, which is a bit hard on the ankles. The Chico Bridge (miles 14 and 20) was the hardest point on the run. The best parts are the F-18 flyover, aid stations/volunteers and medal. The F-18 buzzed the runners for the first few miles. The people manning the aid stations and course were great and energetic. The medal is nice (it?s all about the medal) and you can purchase the patch for about $2 at the expo.

"Great town and flat course" (about: 2004)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Blue Angel Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 The course is flat, but there is the wind. All parts that go by the water are windy and you should find a nice big person to draft behind. The weather was 41 at the start and 57 at the end. The water stops needed a few more hands on deck to make things tick, but overall the support was good. The traffic was zero on the base and light in town. The shirt was great, the medal was OK (Air Force is better), you got a free mug, which was nice, and a poster that lacked any excitement. The price was good. There were less than a 1000 marathoners so it wasn't crowded. The spectators were few but energetic. The Fishhouse restaurant was awesome! Overall a good, small, hometown marathon with the greatest start - multiple F-18 flybys over the course. Hard not to feel patriotic with one of those babies buzzing the course.

"This was my second marathon and it was great" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a great race for new runners. It is very scenic and the planes flying over to start the race were incredible. Being a Navy Chief, this was run was incredible and I would run it again.

"Can be improve a lot better" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 I felt a little lost in the first four miles, I had no clues of where to go, because no directions were posted other than painted arrows on street, visual signs that tell to the athlete(S) where is he/she in relation to the finish line. Great job for all the volunteer who donated their time and effort, they made the event run smoother, thanks so much to them. Why does this marthon have to be so profitable? in sport events of less magnitude than this, the spirit is just not about money, I think it was very rude, that's just what I think. |
