 "starting line flyover was great!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon. It was one of the best organized races I have ever participated in. Great community support. I enjoyed the scenery, even the Superfund Cleanup Site at the old creosote plant. The flyover at the start gave me goose bumps! The last flyover set off car alarms! Made me proud to be an American. | |

 "Nice course very windy" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I came to Pensacola to redeem my self from The Las Vegas Marathon, which I quit at 10 miles due to 'High Winds'. Well I guess my punishment for quitting and making what I thought was a smart decision not to waste my 'PR' training on a bad race day. I came to Pensacola with 3:20 hopes and left with a 3:30. I'll take it! The wind was unbelievable from 18 to the finish. I loved the base thought we should have run all of the race on the base. The only scenic miles after we left the base we 18 and 19 along the water where it got really tough with the wind.I really liked the race and thought it was well organized. I drove from Tampa and it was worth it just to see the Air Museum. I am sure the wind was an fluke and wish you all luck next year! Denise- Tampa | |

 "Good run. Not very scenic" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This was the second time I participated in this race, 2001 I ran the 1/2 marathon and this year the full marathon. BE PREPARED FOR WIND AND EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS. Miles 11-25 are in Pensacola and the scenery is definitely lacking. The support for the race is awesome--the Navy ROTC, AD NAVY and the cops made the race with their enthusiastic support of the race. The second bridge in the race (which you see in the low teens then again around mile 23 or 24) hurts--definitely train for hills or you will have problems with your legs on the last few miles. Unfortunately the real Blue Angels did not make the fly by, and the stand ins were late...however they made up for it with After Burner scrafing runs down the main drag (cover your ears for this)--and they made 'guest' appearances for the first 6 miles. Overall a good marathon if you live close. I would not travel a long distance for the run, of course unless you are NAVY and you are supporting your military branch. Oh, I beat my best time by 10 minutes here--although missed my projected by 5 minutes. Our team, HIGH FLYERS, rocked. Congrats to Lin, Suzie, Angi and Stacey. This was Lin and Angis first marathon. Go AIR FORCE! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Did you get rained out in Tallahassee? This was my first ever marathon last year (2002). I have ran 4 other marathons throughout the year and this one is truly top notch. If your looking for a PR you can get one here. You can even register day of race!!! If you have dried out yet come on down to Pensacola! | |

"Fast Course, no complaints!!" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 Flat fast course, It was COLD for a guy from Hawaii. I think it was about 30 degrees for the start, perfect marathoning weather. Got a PR on the course so can't complain at all. Ran with a guy from IL for about 15 miles, great pacer... Age group awards 5 deep. Nice goody bag with coffee mug, poster, good medal. Beginning of the course runs through the NAS than into Pensacola proper. Aid stations were generally well staffed. Good expo and entertainment after. Nice to have a shower in the gym right next to the finish line. Would do again if I was in the area!! | |

"Well organized and fun marathon." (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This is a very well organized and fun marathon to run. I began the race planning to run only 22 miles of it as a training run for Boston but felt so good and was enjoying it so that I completed the entire run. Flat, well marked course but a hefty head-wind for what seemed to be two-thirds of the course. But hey, who said marathons were supposed to be easy. Very nice start (the jets were cool) and finish with immediate access to a gym (to keep warm), lockers and showers. And for those of you who enjoy the little things after 26.2 miles (such as myself) the finisher's medal is high quality. My low rating for spectators reflects quantity only, not quality. This is a definite do-again but other than Boston I don't repeat marathons since there are so many and so little time. | |

"Well-organized, fun event for runners and family" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This is a well-organized marathon and the volunteers are friendly and enthusiastic. Highlights are: the 4-jets flyover to start the race is awe-inspiring! (4 fly over 1st, then 3, then 2, etc.); run past veterans cemetery, along Pensacola Bay, downtown historic district. This is a fast course, the only hill is a long causeway around mile 12 then back over around mile 20. 2002 start was cold (low 30s), so runners hung out in the warm gym pre-race. Runners' aid on course includes gels, orange slices, bananas, poweraide, water, plus Hash House Harriers handing out beer around mile 14! Family can kill time at finish line with carnival-like atmosphere including Jupiter Jump for kids, hot dogs, etc. Expo was just so-so, but with good essentials and decent prices for last-minutes purchases. Blue Angels souvenirs were cheap -$5 for caps, $10 for long-sleeve shirts; $15 for sweatshirts. Only gripe: Not many hotels near base, and they fill quickly. Expect a longer drive from interstate if you book late. | |

"Well organized and a lot of fun" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I recommend the pre-race pasta dinner; all you can eat, interesting entertainment, great door prizes. The fly over at the start was awesome. Course was mostly flat and very well marked. Excellent support from Marine security, at aid stations and start/finish. Very well organized. Even the kids had a great time there while I was running. Thanks for putting on a fun weekend. | |

"Twice run it, plenty of challenge and fun." (General Comments)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Organization, start and finish, support on the course are all terrific. The young Sailors and Marines controlling traffic along the course all respond to a 'thanks a lot' from the runners, so be sure to do it! Great volunteers at the stations, they're very savvy. |
