"Outstanding" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

What a wonderful marathon this is!!! Extremely well organized, Excellent fan and cheerleader support and if you begin to get tired, one of the many band that are present will perk you up! Unfortunately due to a military obligation I won't be able to run it this year, however I will be back!

"hill wimps" (General Comments)

Yes, the course is hilly, but that is one of the things that makes every road racing course unique. If you don't like it, try running 105 laps around a track. I have run this race all 3 years and have entered again for 2003. The weather was perfect in 2000 and 2002. In 2001, it was too hot. While no marathon can guarantee good weather, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

"Hot & Hilly, but Great Crowd Participation" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I ran this race in April 2001. Being from Florida, the 'rolling hills' were more like mountains to me, but you could not ask for better crowd participation in a race! Nashville was a great place to visit and I would definitely recommend this race if you are looking for a fun marathon with a great place to party afterwards!

"Very Tough" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

I am from Nashville and did not know how hilly my hometown was until I did this one last year. I had run the Amsterdam Marathon a few months earlier and was hoping to beat my time there... no luck! There is a long stretch (from mile 13 to about 18) where there are very few spectators and you must run around an abandoned office park where it's quite boring. Also, you don't run through the better parts of the city, except for the very start. It's still a fun race, but don't underestimate it. The last few miles are very tough.

"Great but hilly at the end!!!" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I ran this as a first marathon because I love Nashville. I had a wonderful time but the hills at the end are horrible. I'm from Louisiana so I didn't train for hills. It would be a great half to run unless you were prepared for the hills at the end. Great crowds.

"My first marathon and I loved it, the city and peo" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

I really enjoyed doing my first marathon in Nashville. The city and it's people were really friendly and helpful. The course was tough, really hilly but very challanging.

A Runner from South Carlolina (6/18/2002)
"Great city and spectators, but killer hills" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 2  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I try to pick marathons in cities I want to visit. Nashville was a great city to see. You should expect to add about 12 minutes to your time. The hills are a killer at the end (mile 21 I think). I do not recommend this marathon for 1st timers. Other runners comments showed me that I'm not the only person who thinks Ultima is terrible. No more Ultima please!!!

A Runner from Nashville (5/26/2002)
"You should run this marathon" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

The organization for this race is outstanding. The crowd support is excellent. Don't believe all the whiners complaining about the hills. Just run a few hilly courses in training and you will do fine. This was my first marathon and I ran the whole distance. You will love Nashville!

"What a challenge!!!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Boy, was this course full of hills! I trained some on hills, but not nearly enough! I did enjoy the run, but I did not finish in the time that I thought I could. It took me 5:23 to finish, and based on how I normally run, I thought I could finish in 4 - 4-1/2. I would not recommend this course for a first time marathoner due to the hilliness. It could be somewhat discouraging. The crowds were great. The water/ultima/powergel stations were adequately manned with plenty of everything. I was very pleased with this marathon.

A Runner from Atlanta GA (5/16/2002)
"Still my favorite marathon !!!!!" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Some may not like the course, and I will admit that the industrial parts are lacking motivation, but it is part of Nashville and a good flat part of town. Others don't like the hills. I race walk most of my marathons and I actually ENJOY the hills, for every up there is a better down. It is a great first timer marathon, due to the fans, water stations, and finishline being open for 7 hours! It was my first marathon a year ago, and this year I did get that elusive PR on THIS course. The volunteers get my kudos, and let me say that even at the FINAL water station, I was able to get food to keep me going that last mile and that was at 5 and a half hours into the race (most races are out of EVERYTHING at that hour, and you must fend for yourself) BLESS YOU to the Kit Kat man at 25 mile station! The expo was crowded this year, but organization on this race exceeds any other race I have done which makes the CM Marathon my all time favorite marathon. See you in 2003 !!!!
