D. from Kentucky (5/11/2013) "This is my last RnR" (about: 2013) 3 previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Country Music Marathon COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This is my second rock and roll event this year (the other was the half marathon in St. Petersburg, FL). I will not be running another one due to the high price, yet not high value. As others have previously stated, and I will reiterate, they nickel and dime you TO DEATH. Food at the finish line was a carton of choc milk, a powerbar, and a powerade. I'm lucky I had the wherewithal to have my mother put extra food in her purse. The course: scenic, but the hills were pretty bad. I had friends tell me that they were bad, and I thought they were being weenies. Nope. It was really, really hilly. After mile 12, there are practically no spectators. That's fine for me because I train by myself, so I'm used to it. But others may find it difficult. Props to ANYONE who came out to support us this year, with the pouring rain! The actual organization of the event is pretty good, but as others have stated, they want to charge you for everything. FYI - I felt awful for those that paid for the VIP shuttle to the park - they had this one tiny little bus going back and forth, and it was taking them FOREVER. I went to the regular shuttle area, which had about 7 monster buses constantly rotating to take people to the park. It took me no time to get on the shuttle and to the start line! I am so thankful I didn't purchase the VIP. I finished around 4:10, and there were zero space blankets left. I was really upset, and wet, and freezing. Not cool.

Hooray for the volunteers, fans, police, medics, musicians....WOW....they were cold and wet and hung in for the runners and kept smiling, laughing, and singing. No wonder TN is the Volunteer State!! Thank you Nashville!

(about: 2013) 3 previous marathons \| 2 Rock 'n' Roll Country Music Marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Runners are tough enough to run in the rain. I love running in my hometown and Nashville never disappoints. The rain kept me cool! Plenty of water stops, volunteers are excellent, and bands (those that played in the rain) were fun, and spectators were dedicated and encouraging. I was too wet to stay for the after party. Biggest con (which was huge)was that they ran out of mylar blankets by the time I finished the marathon and I needed one bad. As soon as I stopped running, my muscles got really cold and locked up. I didn't think I was going to make it to my car.
c. a. from United States (5/3/2013) "RocknRoll Series: cheap quality for high price" (about: 2013) 11-50 previous marathons COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 2 I'm going to rename the Rock n Roll race series the 'Nickle n Dime' series and refuse to run another one. For one of the most expensive races they offer the least in ammenities of any large marathon. T-shirts: They only offer a participant shirt and charge extra for the finisher shirt which is unheard of. Plus the free shirt is cheap, white, and has poor graphics. However at the Expo they have gorgeous race and finishers shirts that they want you to buy. The awful free shirts are just a gimmic to get you to pay for their nice shirts so they can make more money. It's not just this year's shirt. I've done two R&R San Antonio marathons and those shirts were poor quality also. Medals: Medals don't make a huge difference to me but the R&R medals are the cheapest of my 30. I would expect the Country Music medal to be awesome. Below average, especially for the price. And the ribbon is so cheap that the finish line was littered with broken yellow ribbons. Again, this is not just the Country Music marathon, but for all of the R&R races. Country Music: It poured down rain during the entire race and many of the bands could not play. I totally understand this. However, of the bands that were on the course, only ONE was playing country music! The rest was rock. I travelled half way across the US to Nashville to run in the COUNTRY MUSIC marathon with no country music. Course: The course was overly hilly. There is no need for it to be this hilly. They could take out a lot of those hills and make it a more enjoyable course. I will say that, aside from the hills, the course was pretty and went through some great neighborhoods. Crowds: I'll give the crowds an A+ for showing up in the pounding rain. Point to Point Courses: This is another hallmark of the R&R brand and the only reason they do it is to pry more money out of your hands. I've never done another point to point marathon (start line different than finish line) where they charge you for the shuttles you need to get back to your car. Point to point marathons are a hassle to begin with, but to make you pay for the privelege is not appreciated. Up-Selling: This was really ridiculous and another reason I will never again do a R&R branded race. Ugly participant shirts, but you can BUY a pretty one. Not enough potties at the start but you can BUY a $150 pass to use the VIP ones, race start and finish are miles apart but you can BUY a seat on a shuttle bus. Not enough shuttle buses but you can BUY a VIP shuttle pass. Want to track a runner on course? You've got to BUY that too. Finish line food: Again, for a race price that is one of the highest around I would expect more than bagels, bananas and pretzels. I've paid less and been treated to burritos, pizza, baked potatoes, soup, ice cream, etc. But that would mean less profit and after all, it's not about the runner anyway. Aid Stations and Medical Tents: These were generally well stocked and organized.

F. from Pensacola, Florida (5/2/2013) "Rain, Rain, Rain but still a good time" (about: 2013) 4-5 previous marathons \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Country Music Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 We drove up from Florida in complete sunshine on Friday and ended up running this Marathon during big time rain. We still had a great time ! The good: -Expo was not too crowded as previous comments made one believe. We arrived Friday at 3 pm amd expected lines around the building. -Easy runner drop-off point close to start. -Great spectator support in first-half even in the rain. -Goose-bump moment during moment of silence at the start, holding up the peace sign with 20000 fellow runners united is a moment not to be forgotten. -Plenty of water and gatorade stations The bad: -Swag bag and t-shirt were somehwat inferior to what one expects. -almost no second half crowd support , this was expected though. -almost no bands playing, but, one can't control the weather. The ugly: -Organizers ran out of blankets too early, no excuse here. One knows exactly how many runners are registered -Hilly course created water puddles and rivers of water flowing where running Overall, I enjoyed running this marathon, I will be back in 2014!

W. from Boston, MA (5/1/2013) "Nashville marathon is fun" (about: 2013) 1 previous marathon \| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Country Music Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I've never understood complaining about a marathon. If you want to be comfortable, don't sign up to run 26.2 miles. So are there hills? Yes. Can you do them? Yes. Terrain-wise the second half is much easier than the first. As many people will say about this year, the weather was terrible. Heavy, heavy rain and temps in the 50s made a tough run tougher but c'est la vie. Pros: Great expo. First 13.1 takes you through some fun crowds and much of Nashville. The bands who did play (rain, understandably made it unable for some to play) were great. The people are super enthusiastic. Medal is amazing. Challenging course. Frequent water stations some with oranges and apples and even pretzels! I also went to the post-race concert with Sarah Darling and Craig Morgan that night which was really a nice, relaxing way to celebrate - definitely worth doing. Cons: Only two, 1.) The finish line ran out of the foil blankets. As someone who did the 26.2, seeing people that did the 13.1 walking around with TWO blankets while I shiver without ONE was very frustrating. People need to be more respectful - especially on a day like that - and organizers, please try to control this better in the future. 2.) Of the 30,000 runners, only about 3k were doing the full. I loved the space I found on the second 13.1 but found it difficult to run my goal pace with so many people doing the half. My goal was 3:45 but wish I moved up to corrals with faster paces to find more room. Great first marathon, thank you to EVERY spectator that braved the elements to cheer us on, thank you to the volunteers and congrats to all the runners.

But the course, bands, spectators, and volunteers were amazing. The usual long bathroom lines didn't damper the spirit Nashville brought out!

Spectators and volunteers were incredible, and braved the rain with the runners. The organizers ran out of blankets on a very, very rainy day. I finished just under 4 hours and they were already gone. I wonder how many people had to freeze with me after running in the deluge.

C. from Murfreesboro, TN (4/27/2013) "Too Expensive for the What you Get" (about: 2013) 50+ previous marathons \| 6+ Rock 'n' Roll Country Music Marathons COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 4 I've run this marathon 7 times and each time it gets worse and worse while the price keeps going up. I run because it is local for me. I sign up at the expo for next years race which is 1/2 price ($75). After the expo is over it starts at $95 and goes up to $150. What you get at the expo is a hard time getting your race bib and then a $5 racing T which looks like it is worth $1. As you can tell I don't think much of the Rock N Roll marathon. It was 10 times better when it was organized by the local Nashville group. Now the coarse is fairly hilly. An example, Boston has roughly 525 feet of elevation change over the coarse while Nashville has right at 1,000 feet of elevation change. The fans are great for the first half but like a lot of full marathons the fans get kinda few and far between on the full. Overall, if you can drive to the race within 4 to 5 hrs and sign up at the expo it is a good training race with the hills.

J. from Columbus, OHio (4/17/2013) "Worth The Trip" (about: 2012) 3 previous marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Overall, i really liked this race, the weather was ridiculously hot, but nothing can really be done about that. The Crowd Support through the first half was awesome, and as most races died down during the 2nd half. The expo was kind of a mess to get in and out of, but other than that had a great time, and was worth the flight down there to run this race.
