Great race. Really enjoyed the scenery and the spectators cheering us on. Definitely on my list to do again next year.

"beautiful fast canyon, rough finish with cars" (about: 2013)

I loved the beautiful fast canyon. I have run 19 full marathons and I loved this one... except for the finish on Highland Drive. I felt like we were just shoved over in the gutter while traffic was going by. I'm curious to see if the course will be closed off next year with the new course changes. I will run this again, big cottonwood canyon is sooo beautiful and fun to let go and race down. Runners need to make sure they train LOTS of downhill.

"Beautiful, challenging and would do again!" (about: 2013)

This was a very cool marathon...not for the faint of heart, or legs! It was my 48th marathon and I have to say I felt like I really was pretty tough to have been able to run this and come away with minimal soreness. It is a very 'muscular' race. I ran up and down our local ski mountain all summer, so I had prepared my legs for the extreme downhill running in this marathon. It is very beautiful in the canyon and the organization was great. I would do it again!

"First-timer, not fond of all the downhill" (about: 2013)

First Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

As a first time marathon runner, I was not looking for a Qualifying time, I just wanted to accomplish my goal to run a marathon. So my comments may not apply to those who are in it to set PRs and qualify for Boston. I understand that that seems to be the goal and selling point for this course. While my finishing time was probably faster than if it'd been on a more even course, it was not worth the pain it took just to finish the course. I expected to be really sore but after the race not during it. That made the experience less enjoyable and more frustrating because I felt I had prepared well for this race. In my past races (half-marathons) the last few miles of the course have been the best for me when I feel I can finish fast and strong and push myself. I did not feel that way in the closing miles of this race (last 6 miles). Therefore, I personally did not feel good about the race even though my time was good for me. I acknowledge that I made some mistakes along the race, mainly starting out at too fast a pace, so my disappointment is not solely in the course. But I do feel the amount of downhill was too much especially with no uphill to counterbalance it. The downhill made it difficult to keep my regular pace because I felt I would fall on my face if I didn't keep moving especially the first 3 miles of the course. And I paid for it the rest of the race.
Having said all that, I was very pleased in the packet pick-up efficiency, the busing, the amount of bathrooms, the aid stations, and the frequency of aid stations. The medal is the best I've gotten from a race although not a huge priority for me. The stuck bus was not anyones fault and I felt the race organizers handled it well and efficiently. I would have liked the pace markers to have been more distinct at the start line, I only saw two.

I flew from NC to run my first marathon. I found the course amazingly beautiful, and quite brutal on the quads. The volunteers were very enthusiastic

I ran the full marathon last year and had great race. I was able to run a 10 minute better than Boston Qualify time and PR.
