"Not sure if you could find a faster, small race." (about: 2010)

So far, I've done only small marathons, and this was the smallest, with about 300 runners. It was also the best. E-mails from the organizer were helpful and often. The course is straight, flat and mostly shaded. The only reason I gave spectators 3 stars is because it's a small marathon and they congregate at intersections, so there was some lonely running in between. Still, the crowds were the most enthusiastic I've seen, yet. I didn't PR on this course, but the experience was awesome and I hope to come back next year.

Superb organization from packet pickup to finish and food. Awesome on course support; bands; water stations with high-energy staff (in all varieties of dress!); gels; snacks; all forms of treats; bike-riding aid teams all along course; plenty of porta-jons at the start and along course; and tremendous medical staff at the finish to assist with any injuries. Small, personal, and virtually perfect!!! We will go back next year. Thanks, Sean!

"Best small marathon around!" (about: 2010)

Do not change a thing about this marathon! The course was flat, fast, and smooth. I shaved over 15 minutes from my personal best without trying. Things just flowed and the trail was not crowded. And what a gorgeous trail. The spectators were 100% supportive and enthusiatic. Plenty of water, gels, sports drink, and food on the course. This is the first marathon where I did not have to stand in line on the course for a port-o-pot. The post-race food was great: Pizza, bagels, pop tarts, candy, bananas, cookies, chips, everything you could want. The bands were fabulous and the weather was perfect. This is the PA must for 50 staters! Great job, Sean!

"Great Small Marathon" (about: 2010)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Bob Potts Heritage Rail Trail Marathon

Ran the 2nd annual race today. There were approximately 400 runners, so it was very small. Probably more spectators than runners, so I can't complain there.

The course is really nice - gravel on a rails-to-trails course, out and back, with a finish on a track. Very slight elevation change - hardly noticeable.

This is a race that I'll likely run again. Really well done.

"My NEW Favorite Marathon" (about: 2010)

I loved this marathon from start to finish! So well organized, so beautiful, and such a flat, fast course. There were tons of water stations and even cyclists handing out GU. Not a ton of spectators, but the ones that were there were very enthusiastic! Finishing on the track for the last 200 was awesome!! I will be back to run this one again!!!

"Awesome race!" (about: 2010)

This is a great race - the course is as flat as a pancake, aid/post-race area were well stocked, and the spectators were more enthusiastic than I've seen at any race. They even had bands at the start/finish and at mile 11/15. Plus, the small field gives it charm.

"I would run it again!" (about: 2009)

This was a great race for an inaugural event. The RD was quick to respond to emails and the volunteers were great. It got a bit hot, as there are parts not shaded, but I still enjoyed myself.

"It is average" (about: 2009)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Bob Potts Heritage Rail Trail Marathon

This is simply an average marathon, on a pure, flat trail. The gravel and flatness make is more difficult than you'd imagine. For beginners, don't assume the flatness makes this one easy. The gravel is not efficient to run on... you should be familiar with running on gravel before setting out to do 26.2 miles on it. Organization was average at best compared to the bigger marathons out there. The scenery is average, with few spectators. I won't do this one again.

"Excellent effort for a first-year event!" (about: 2009)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Bob Potts Heritage Rail Trail Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

For a first-time event, the organization was outstanding. It's limited to 500 runners, so there's a nice, intimate feel, like you were running with friends. A very well run race, with an excellent course - the "rails to trails" is almost flat, with a gravel surface that is fun to run on. Good support throughout the race. The only negative was the sports drink served on the course and the lack of variety in drinks at the end. But the food was great and the organizers have said that they will address the drink situation next year. If you like a smaller race with good amenities, this is one you don't want to pass up. I plan to be back next year.

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon. I didn't know what to expect, but from moment I registered, I felt at ease because of emails from the organizer regarding updated info. I was an out-of-state runner, and enjoyed the people, course, volunteers, tech t-shirt, and medal. Everything about this marathon was first-class.
