I will suggest this race to friends. Ran it in 2012 for the first time and really enjoyed the course. Race organizers cut off field at 500 entrants. Scenic trail. Great spectator support every mile or 2 at intersections. Sean Potts does a great job organizing the race. Marathon finish takes place on the York College track. Plan to come back next year.

This is a very well organized marathon and tribute to the race director's father, Bob Potts. The race director is great at keeping everyone posted with emails with information regarding the marathon prior to the start. The is a rails-to-trail marathon and quite beautiful and scenic. In fact, you could smell the flowering trees while running the course. The course surface is crushed gravel and much easier on the legs than a road race. There is also a cool train tunnel to run through twice (it's an out and back course).

If you need hundreds of people cheering you on and a large, crowded expo, this is not the race for you. This is a marathon for a true marathoner. The spectators along the course were enthusiastic and fun; the volunteers were quick to make sure runners had enough water and Gatorade. Finishing on the college track is awesome and this year they had an announcer over a loud speaker call out runners' names as they made their way around the track to the finish. Good food at the finish, too. I want to run this marathon again next year. Just as an example of the race director's attention to detail, my Ipod fell off during the run up to the track and the race director tweeted that he had found it and he is going to send it back to me. An amazing event.

"Great small time race, but beware of the weather" (about: 2012)

The pros are:
1) the course, which is relatively flat with crushed stone, and mostly shaded
2) easy for spectators to find a viewing point
3) lots of gatorade and water even for the back of pack runners
4) frequent water stops
5) it was nice to see real food (bagels, pizza, pretzels) being offered after the race
6) cute medal and lovely shirt

The only negative is the time of year that the marathon is held. Gets quite warm in PA heading towards the end of May. This would have been an excellent race if it was held in March or even April.

Overall, I think the RD with his family and a small group of volunteers did an excellent job organising this race.

At 50 yrs old, I was so excited to run this course knowing it was flat, and a forgiving surface (crushed gravel, rails to trails). Glad I made the choice given I wasn't 100% prepared!! Finished and am in again for Bob Potts 2012! Loved the whole experience, including the volunteers and fuel stops! Post race food was great!

We drove down from Ontario, Canada, and were very pleased with the organization and execution of the marathon. Sean Potts has done an amazing job of honouring his father's memory and the race has a lovely small town family feel to it. We would recommend this race to anyone. The course is flat and fast and for anyone who want to set a PB the field is small and there is no jostling for position.

I have run all three Bob Potts Marathons and keep coming back because it is definitely one of my favorites! A nice, small, hometown feel with personal attention make this a pleasant race to run! Sean Potts is a very cordial Race Director and does his best to make sure that everything is taken care of to the best of his ability. The course is flat, fast and forgiving on the legs. Water stops are plentiful and well stocked with enthusiastic volunteers. If you enjoy running in rural countryside along a rails-to-trails course that is out and back, then I highly recommend this race! There are periods of sparse spectator support but overall you will not get lonely out there!

This was my third year running this race, and I fully intend to run it every year...as long as the race and I are both still around. Sean Potts and crew do a first-rate job. I'm sure his father is proud to have his name associated with this race.

The course is very flat and rustic. For some, the out-and back nature of the course may be undesirable, but I personally like it that I get to pass every single other runner at some point during the race...and it's always exciting (and humbling) to see the leaders heading back to the finish line.

Also, nice medal and good food. There's a real hometown feel to this race. The only thing that's possibly lacking might be chip timing, but I don't think it's really necessary. Besides it would only drive up the price and would add very little. Final note, the crowds are small but wonderfully enthusiastic and friendly.

"Superb Small Marathon" (about: 2011)

I would definitely recommend this marathon. Had a great time. Packet pick-up was easy. Not too many runners. Flat, shaded (for the most part), trail course. The only thing missing is lots of spectators. The ones there were great (and very loud and supportive). Since it's an out-and-back course, there was lots of support from the runners going in the opposite direction. The last .3 of a mile is up a driveway to the stadium at York College, but finishing on the cushioned track was nice.

My wife and I just finished Boston and we were looking for something a little different. The Bob Potts Marathon fit the bill to a "T." What a world of difference. There is so much local "heart" in this marathon. The course was soft on our feet and the weather mild. This one's a keeper!
