Tar River Running Company is a first class running company that hosts the very best events in NC. This is my third race with them and it keeps getting BETTER!

This is a great fall trail race! I've run dozens of trail races and this is up there with the best of them. If you need crowd support and don't like getting dirty....don't do this race. It's in the woods and you will fall down! Even tho this is a loop you do 3 times, it never gets old. Wonderful volunteers and aid stations. If you're into swag, this one has a personalized bib, great medal, nice long sleeved cotton t-shirt, a finisher's surprise (beanie this year) a package of jelly beans, honey stinger, and a Medoc tatto. Awards are 3 deep in 10 year age groups so a good chance of winning. My only complaint was there was no hot food left at the end when I finished. Lots of other snack type foods but I was looking forward to the red beans and rice. If you like trail races, put this one on your calendar for 2014.

"Outstanding Trail Race and Organization!" (about: 2013)

This was my first trail race (10miler, my girlfriend did the marathon) and it was outstanding. Very well organized - great emails pre-race, well run checkin, super nice park, great cap and t-shirt (both I will keep!), plenty of portapotties, and outstanding volunteers and trail support. Definite run again!

This is a great race - one that is put on for the love of the running community! The race entry fee was very low by today's standards and had a very unique, home-like feel to it. The race directors did a fantastic job of organizing this race and communicating details before, during, and after it (the best I've ever seen - five stars isn't enough). We camped overnight in the group campground (free I might add), met many wonderful people, and swapped race stories. The race staff and volunteers were incredibly friendly, greeting us with encouragement and smiles. There weren't a lot of spectators on the course as their weren't thousands of runners and we weren't in the middle of a city (it was a small trail race!). However, the spectators that were there were full of energy and encouraging for the runners. The course was clear of debris and was a well marked but challenging course. Like many fall trail races, leaves were on the ground obscuring rocks and roots (this is why I gave it four stars - but honestly don't know how this could be overcome) and the trail was challenging but very fun to run. I wish I had known about this race earlier! I tip my cap to the race director's and all the other volunteers that made this race so wonderful! Thank you!

Here are a couple of things you could do differently next time:)))
1. Get rid of all the rocks
2. Raise the dirt level above all the roots OR you could just pave it all:)
The race was great and we had fun! Thanks:)))

Cannot say enough about this amazing event. It is by far my favorite marathon and my running all 6 races can attest to the proof of that statement. It is truly a runner friendly event from start to finish. The organizers stop at nothing to make your experience the best ever. You need to come and find out for yourself.

I ran this race specifically in the hunt for the 'Red Oktober'. I hunt legends! This June, Sasquatch was almost in my sight at Anchorage Alaska's Midnight Marathon. It turned out to be a moose and her calf. Thrilling just the same! This time, I was sure I would spot this elusive Medoc who inhabits the Medoc Mountains. He was visible twice as a cardboard symbol, during each loop. He looked a lot like Sasquatch, without hair, or maybe more like Cyclops, with a piercing eye. At one point, I thought I smelled him; maybe it was me I smelled; then a push from behind. I went down. At my age it takes a while to get back up and orient myself to space. I guess Medoc didn't mean any harm. I continued. Very near the finish, I went down again. This time I was sure Medoc wanted to keep me in his beautiful environment. Didn't give him the opportunity. I finished!

The three loop course was beautiful and never got boring. The plants, trees, and bridges made it exciting, while the rocks and exposed roots forced you to be more watchful. The route was well marked, so there was no way to get lost. There were aid stations every three miles. There was even a portable toilet on the trail, not that you needed it with all the woods to use, unless bashfulness or fear of Medoc was in play.

A terrific race! It was well organized with attention to details and wonderfully attentive and cheerful volunteers. The mementos included a great technical long sleeve shirt with the colorful Medoc logo and a fantastic metal well worth the entire race. The medal is gorgeously designed, big and heavy with the legendary Medoc body bulk on one side, and elegant logo on the other side. The sash fabric has the eye-catching colors of the Medoc logo and boldly includes the date and name of the race. There was even a surprise gift at the finish line, a useful handheld bottle with a cell phone pocket or whatever you want to stash.

Michael, Frank, Scott and Ron-thank you for the parking accommodations and your understanding of my husband's condition. You were attentive to him, a benefit I did not anticipate or expect. Gratefully your, 'Jersey Jaquar' aka 'Jersey Girl'. I will keep that name.

Medoc trail marathon is a well organized, fun race. The course was the perfect challenge. Trails and course were well marked. Even after 6 hours and two race distances, the aid stations were well stocked (the lightly salted boiled potatoes were yummy and a great energy boost). Must do event for any marathon runner that wants to run trails.
