You will be hard pressed to find another race as Great as this one. It's challenging, fun, quality sawg and top notch volunteers. Free pictures & camping too.

I used this 3-loop marathon trail run as training for the Mountain Masochist 50-Mile Trail Run two weeks out. Medoc is a very easy trail compared to MMTR and other ultra trail races, but it is well run and falls at a good time of year. A 10 mile race is held on the same course, same day, but starts 30 minutes later and adds interest but not complexity to the marathon. Numbers of participants are capped in both the marathon and 10-miler, so there is rarely congestion on the trail. The course is quite well shaded, so the 70+ degree day did not feel overly warm. Aid volunteers were great, as were the race organizers. I highly recommend this race for anyone who would like to try her or his first trail race or those who, like me, can use the race to prepare for another fall event.

This is the best trail marathon in NC. Great course. Awesome swag. Well organized. Just an overall feeling that the RDs and volunteers love what they're doing and want to make this race stand out with its awesomeness.

Course is gorgeousdifficult, but runable which makes it an excellent challenge. This is a small race (less than 200) , which is really nice because it feels more personable and focused on the runners as individuals. The race directors really go out of their way to make sure each runner feel special, and make it a fun event for all. Also, they really seem to enjoy putting on this race because they are always smiling. The race swag is unprecedented, with a 'surprise finishers award' in addition to everything else. This was my first time running it, but it won't be my last.

The organization and volunteer support at Medoc are second to none!! Add a fantastic (you know, in the technical, rocky, root strewn, rocky hill kinda way) trail race and what more could you possible want or need?? Oh, thats right, the stairs!! Two sets, three loops- you do the math...

This race is a MUST if your into trail running. The volunteers make this enjoyable. The trails on a crisp fall day where beautiful the leaves turning the river flows.

I look forward to coming back each year to what is my favorite marathon. The proof is that in the 7 year history of the race I have run all 7 marathons. The course it not easy, but not too hard either. It is a challenge and that's what I like. The race directors have made this a runner friendly event with the focus on the runners. From special bibs with crazy trail names, great themed medals, shirts (this year hoodies), finishers surprises. Plus recognition of those committed runners like myself who come back year after year with inclusion into the 100 mile club. This race sees many return because it has truly become like a family reunion for many of us. The aid stations are well stocked and the volunteers are the best. You won't find any better. So come on out and join in the fun! You'll be hooked just like me!

Great trail race put on by a group with a spectacular sense of humor! Could only be made better if they would add a couple of miles to make it a 50K.....but overall I loved it and will be back with friends!!!!

This is one of the best kept secrets in our area. It was our 3rd year running the Marathon and it was again an excellent experience. Camping the night before at the group camp (free) is one of the best parts of the weekend as we sit around the fire exchanging running stories and seeing old friends. The course itself is technical and this flat lander falls down on the trail every year. But the scenery is amazing and the nature colors are beautiful. The complaint, as others said, is that the hot food is gone long before many of the marathoners finish. That is why the 4 stars. The volunteers are great, the race directors are superb, the aid stations are stocked up and the swag is first class.
Thank for such a great event.

I originally wanted to sign up for the 10 miler as a tpaer run for MCM the following weekend.
It was full, so I signed up for the marathon, with the intent of doing one, maybe two loops and then dropping. It was so beautiful (I am not normally a trail runner) that I went for the entire 3 loops - AND got the most AWESOME medal! Well done, Medoc!
