Great race, swag, course, and atmosphere. You have to camp because it adds to the experience. THE PEOPLE ARE THE BEST!

"The Medoc Trail Marathon is awesome!" (about: 2012)

This trail marathon was a great experience. It was my first trail marathon, and I was not disappointed! It wasn't too hard, and not too easy - a perfect combination of hills and flat, loose gravel and soft dirt. High marks go to the race directors, the organization, and the volunteers the day of. Everyone made the experience so enjoyable. The aid stations were stocked with water, Gatorade, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, cookies, pretzels, chips, gummy bears, potatoes, all kinds of stuff. And the post race grub was great too - red beans and rice! And an array of other goodies. This race has great swag, Nathan hand-held hydration bottles were this year's finisher's surprise. Nice, big medal, sweet (long-sleeved) tech shirt, fun race bibs with your own individual 'trail name' on the front. It's a small race (470) but growing quickly. Registration always sells out within a week or so, so get in early!

Frank and his crew doing an amazing job of making this race not only fun, but completely organized and competitive. I have done both the marathon and the 10 miler and the runners are all encouraging, the course is not congested and everyone there-spectators, runners, and volunteers - obviously enjoy the event!

Organization and support were extraordinary, and the course was interesting - lots of ups, downs, twists and turns, without any huge challenges.

"Still one of the best small trail races" (about: 2012)

The race organizers again put on a great event. This trail race has just the right amount of technical difficulty and despite being a loop course does not get boring. I am still trying to figure out how they manage to increase the grade of the inclines from lap to lap. Highly recommended!

Loved the pre-race newsletters, the humorous FAQs page, and the FB page. Very well organized, runners were taken care of, volunteers were awesome, loved the well stocked aide stations, the medals were great, and beautiful course. I've run other trail races and this one is a definite repeater!

Everything about this race is first rate. Low key and fun. Fantastic volunteer support throughout. Extremely well-organized. The race directors are very hands on and very visible. I recommend this race to anyone who enjoys trail running. Be aware that this is mostly a flat course and very runnable.

I have never run on trails. Thought I'd start by running a trail marathon. I know, brilliant. I signed up for Medoc because the race reviews were over the top. The race absolutely lived up to the reviews. The marathon is 3 loops. By the third it's a little monotonous but it's beautiful and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I also loved the Medoc emails. Please tell whomever wrote them that they were hilarious and the only race emails I've ever read from start to finish. Thanks for working so hard to create such a great experience.

"Rooooots! And loads of fun!" (about: 2012)

I'm a 34 year old male. Finished 17th overall at 3:51 (that's my running 'level')... so I'm an average runner for my age. I ran the Tecumseh Trail Marathon 2 yrs ago and this one was definitely kinder, in regards to the uphill burn and downhill knee torture, but this one had loads of roots (galore!) and rocks to dance with, so watch out Tenderfoots. That being said, I actually finished just shy of my average flat-marathon time. I think it's because the weather was cool, race supremely well-organized, and enough flattened out parts to recover as you run. Pluses: catered awesome catered meal, friendly people to camp out with the night before, a huge medal that made me feel like I actually won the thing, and just getting a chance to twist up the whole marathon thing (challenge outside of a city). Anyway, definitely recommend it!
