"Great, low-key, trail marathon" (about: 2010)

I have run many races over the last 30 years that claim to be a"'runner's races." Medoc delivers. The organizers do a GREAT job. A beautiful, challenging course; plenty of aid at the stations (including power gel); enthusiastic volunteers; post-race food; great shirt; great medal; great surprise (a runner's vest - are you kidding me?!). All of that at a very reasonable price. A lot of race directors could take lessons from these folks.

A beautiful day for a trail marathon; the trails were awesome and the people were fabulous. Medoc organizers: thank you for a top-shelf event, and to all who volunteered, thanks for all that you did. I had a blast and will definitely be back.

The Medoc course is fantastic. The marathon consists of three loops on a marvelously varied trail, which is composed of very runnable flat portions along with a decent mix of hills and technical portions. It's more challenging than I anticipated. But, I'd say it's a perfect trail experience for a marathon.

The race organizers did a superb job of communicating with the registered runners well before the event. And, the race-day festivities went very well. Post-race food was marvelous, as were the aid stations.

Overall, I highly recommend running this marathon! The whole experience was great for me. And, being that this was my first marathon, I am so glad that I was part of this race.

My third time running and I'll be back!!!!! This is one of my favorite events to run. Put this on your must-do list. It is very well organized with great volunteers. A challenging, but scenic course. Well stocked aid stations and this year the weather was great! They even give you a special surprise at the end!

Awesome trail race! Super organization, great volunteers, and a beautiful trail. I would highly recommend this trail for trail newbies to those with significant experience. This is by far my favorite trail race in NC! Super support from start to finish and the best finisher's surprise!

Very well organized and very runner-friendly. My wife and I ran the marathon, my two sons ran the 10-mile race, and my two daughters volunteered to help at an aid station. None of us had a negative comment. The weather was even perfect. The organizers of this event make a real effort to cater to the runners. Allowing the runners to vote on the type of finisher's medal they would receive was a nice touch. The tech tee, the medal, and the finisher's surprise were all great. It's a fairly long drive for an overnight family trip, but we all agree the race experience is worth the drive.

Great three-loop course. It is relaxing to run by the creeks and entirely on trails. Single track is in good shape with only one rocky section. Finsher's medal was very nice, and we received a technical shirt and finisher's vest.

"Awesome race, and caring RD's and volunteers" (about: 2010)

Medoc was a great experience. Pre-race prep, including emails, funny stories, and choosing trail names contributed to a great vibe for the race. The trails and weather were perfect. Fall colors in a beautiful park. RDs and volunteers clearly went way out of their way to ensure a great experience, which they delivered. Post-race meal... red beans and rice. What more can I say? Oh, the run was great too! Definitely some challenging parts, but a fast course overall.

For a smaller race, this one is a blast! The race organizers and volunteers always come through to create an atmosphere unlike any other race I have experienced. The spectators get so wrapped up in the cheering and encouraging sometimes I wonder if they are having more fun than the runners!
