If you like a smaller marathon with beautiful surroundings and cooler weather....run Rehoboth. AND after the marathon you have many excellent food options including Dogfish Head Brew Pub. The course was fast even with some strong winds at times. Overall a great race and great town.
Timothy Schneider from Philadelphia, Pa (12/13/2011) "Flat, fast, and senic" (about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 I had no trouble running more then 5 minutes under the new Boston time requirement and so I am happy camper. However I think the course may have been short (like maybe 0.2 miles?). Also there was a bunch of wind in some locations, but generally it was sheltered.

Nice town, scenic course. Miles 12-18 are exposed to ocean winds that can be cold at this time of year. Good food selection after the race, including veggie burgers, sliders, salad, mac/cheese, pancakes, etc. Course was mis-marked at mile 3 (and maybe mile 4), but it was still 26.2 at the end. Run through salt marsh area is really nice on the trail, which is crushed stone.
Tom Monarque from Hawthorne, New Jersey (12/12/2011) "A Wonderful Experience" (about: 2011) 4-5 previous marathons \| 1 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I initially picked this race because in the four previous marathons I have run the temperatures have been in the low to mid 80's. This even included a Florida marathon in January and a Virginia marathon in March. Because I don't do heat well, I felt this was perfect. A few weeks before this marathon I developed some muscle strain issues in my legs and considered not showing up. I am so glad I changed my mind. This marathon was a wonderful experience. The course was diverse and interesting. I have read previous posts where runners did not like the State Park area. I though it was great, as was the trail. The homes I passed were georgeous.My least favorite section was the out and back roadway through Lewes, but even this was tolerable.My biggest compliment goes to the volunteers. They were terrific. Every water stop was well stocked, even for the back of the pack runners; like me. The volunteers encouraged me to contine. This was so helpful, especially in the late miles. The coordination between the civilians and the police was terrific. Everyone was friendly and so polite. I tried to thank each one of them. Somewhere around the 18th mile, near the water, the wind was really whipping. Yes it does get windy here! I came upon four young girls huddled in a building enclosure covered in blankets. They were freezing. As soon as these young ladies so me coming, they came out with the water and gatorade and said encouraging things with a smile. That's dedication! My wife did the half marathon and loved it. I amsure we will do this run again. I haven't run any race, of any distance, that was more well organized than this one. Congratulations. I believe the race will grow, but I hope it does not get so big it loses it's small race charm.

(about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 The packet pickup and the post race party are in a HUGE tent right beside the running store and the finish line and the tent had heat which was nice considering the chilly wind that day. The course has some city streets some crushed gravel bike trail and some back roads. It was windy and a little on the cool side but not bad. Very well organized event. Cost for mailing an award was steep if you couldn't stick around for the award ceremony.

C. from USA (12/12/2011) "Flat, Fast and Fabulous" (about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 3 Rehoboth Seashore Marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is the 3rd time I have run this course and 2 of the 3 were PR's. It is flat and such a pretty course, 42 degrees at the start. The start is just steps from the ocean with the sun rising and the finish has never ending hot food and beer. They even had veggie burgers! Also had a choice of race shirt color, no one does that. Staff and town were super friendly the whole weekend. Even got tax free Xmas shopping done at the outlets. Everything was within 2-5 blocks of the race. My favorite marathon of the 18 states I have done! Great job Rehoboth Beach Running Co.!
D. S. from Dayton OH (12/11/2011) "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" (about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Nicely done RBRC! I felt like I was back in the Midwest. Where did that wind come from? Nevertheless, it was a great race on a fast course. The race was very well pulled off and much larger than I anticipated. I honestly didn't expect 1K+ runners in the half and full marathons. The temperature was perfect. The 15-20 kt wind was in our faces most of the way out on the out-and-back course (with a loop around the state park thrown in) but that put the wind at our backs for most of the last 6 miles...great for tired legs The only thing lacking was huge crowds feeding our egos as we run by. The Good: For a smaller race, this was pulled off very well. RBRC knows how to keep things moving. The course was clearly marked and the water stations were well spaced and well run. Packet pickup was smooth in the tent outside the store (the tent was heated which was great post-race). Medals and shirts look pretty good. Traffic control was superb...even the stretches where runners going both ways had to share the road. Having a controlled center vehicle lane was a great idea. I never felt at risk. Kudos to the municipal support from the police, fire, emergency services, and park district....and the outstanding volunteers, too! The post race spread was great! Hot pancakes, cold beer, and massage tables in the heated tent. Ahhh..... The Bad: Can some of the small loops and out-and-back spikes in the park be replaced by using neighborhood streets? One or two blocks added into the early part of the course would eliminate some of the 'run around the parking lot perimeter' loops in the park. The water station in the middle of the cinder trail (near 23rd mile marker) should be moved farther away from the road intersection by about 50 yards. The posts to keep vehicles off the cinder trail create a hazard with 2 way runner traffic in a very narrow area. The Ugly: Not sure there really was any. No George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers show at the finish, perhaps? Y'all done good. All in all, this is a race I would return to run again. You have a hidden treasure here. Guarantee this event continues to grow.
R. R. from NY, NY (12/11/2011) "Nice town and course but way overpriced" (about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 I ran this to cross Delaware off of my list. It has the potential to be a good/very good event, and I suspect it will get there one day if the organizers keep at it. PROS * relatively flat and fairly scenic course, with decent views of the Atlantic Ocean in some places * great water stops with enthusiastic volunteers * beautiful, clean beach town with friendly residents * GREAT Hotel - Hotel Rehoboth (at race finish) * good finishers medal * although very few of them came out, the supporters that did were enthusiastic and friendly, as were the police/firemen manning the intersections CONS * far to expensive for a race of this caliber ($120) * no expo * pre-race pasta fest had most of its tables with no chairs and the pasta was so-so ($15 a head extra) * mile markers seemed off substantially early-on Overall, the foundation exists for a solid event. I encourage the organizers to keep at it! Thanks Rehoboth.

M. from Northeast US (12/11/2011) "Loved it and will run again next year" (about: 2011) 4-5 previous marathons \| 1 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Prerace: As a rookie on the course, the organizers could have done a better job of letting runners know where to be and when (I planned on picking up my packet in the am of the race). However, it turned out to be very easy to pickup packets and everything was fairly low key and low stress on race day. Course: I loved it. I've run NYC 3x (3:53, 3:36, and 3:23) but it has been a while since those times. Really enjoyed the beach aspect of the course including the part in the former Ft. Miles. The trail run from miles 22-24 saved my race (love trail running and would have bonked and pulled out otherwise). Post race: didn't attend the after party and still haven't seen my official time as the web site is down. Ran an unofficial 4:06 but would like to know my actual time. Very fast course but hit some headwinds at miles 8-12 that blew me up. Spectators / support: There weren't that many spectators on the course but those who were out were very enthusiastic. Support was fantastic and the race was well maintained. Finish: the course finish was a little confusing and I didn't like running through a high traffic area at the end, but would return in any case.
S. S. from Washington, D.C. (12/11/2011) "great conditions" (about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 Great place to PR. Temps in the high 30s or low 40s. Only one real uphill stretch (which ends with a nice ocean view). The only imperfection was the wind off the ocean, and even that wasn't too bad (and it was a tailwind on the way back to town). But if you need crowd support, look elsewhere: it's a small town in the winter, with only sporadic spectators. My only complaint is about the shirt: it's not terribly attractive, and everyone (full and half) gets the same one. The medal is okay, but at least they're different for each event.
