"Good course, poorly organized, great spectators" (about: 2005)

The course is great, hilly but very scenic. The spectators wore fantastic! Very few areas where no one was around. Lots of cheering and overall great support. Organization was a bit off. The finish area was a zoo. Not enough room for runners, family and spectators. Bag-check was a disaster with bags arriving after many 1/2 marathoners finished. Mile markers were off (no way I ran a 7.0 minute mile), timing results are off (my 1/2 marathon time was 24 minutes from my 10K split?), no clue when the race started because you couldn't hear the announcements, a second bag-check area at the start that was never publicized and no vendors other than Nike at the expo. Having said all that, I'm glad I went; I had a blast.

Words can't describe how amazing this race was. I enjoyed the course so much I wish I had run the full instead of the half. The weather was prefect for running and the views were breathtaking. I can't wait until next year.

"Great course, some organizational glitches" (about: 2005)

2 previous marathons | 2 Nike 26.2 = Nike Women's Marathons
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 5

I agree with most comments, but wanted to add that for us slow runners (14 min mile) there were some glitches:
1. Not enough port-a-potties in miles 3-6. The 30+ at mile 14, after more than half the group split off, seemed excessive.
2. What animal crackers?
3. I'd rather have salt in later miles than chocolate. But it was a nice touch.
4. I wish the organizers would give some suggestions like walkers stay right, runners go left.
5. Mile marker for miles 4/5 messed up. Can't believe I ran an 18 min mile followed by an 8 min mile on the flats.
6. Spectators were awesome. I loved the TNT support (even though I wasn't with them).
7. Timing of event was nicely done. Start was well-organized by pace.
8. LOVED having my name announced at the finish! Nice touch.
7. When your finish time is 6+ hours there were no crowds and my bags were easy to find, but still long lines for massages.
8. Volunteers were great - plenty of water, bars and 'ade. I liked the cheer stations and the DJ's and wish there were more.

I'd do it again.

Wow, what a fantastic race. Go girls!! Everything was perfect. Course was great, weather was perfect and the spectators were awesome. The finish line was spectacular and the necklace is like a right of passage. Don't miss this one!!!

"Beautiful, challenging course. " (about: 2005)

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon, and what better place to do it than San Francisco? More organization/crowd control for packet pick up at Niketown - it was crazy! Nike also needs to stock more L and XL sizes for their shirts - the most popular shirts in these sizes were sold out by 2pm on Friday! The lines at the finish for pics and massages were too long - at least give us chairs to sit in while we are waiting (we're really tired)!!! Also, PLEASE give different necklaces for the half and full marathons signifying 26.2 or 13.1 - we earned it! I would definitely do this race again. TNT and crowd support was AWESOME!!!! The chocolate mile needs more creativity - how about a fountain of chocolate? The cheerleaders were a really nice touch. And more music would be great!!

"Much Better Than Anticipated" (about: 2005)

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

I was very pleased with the course overall - it was much more manageable than anticipated. It was very challenging, but there were great declines to make up for the tough inclines. The crowd was awesome!! The lake was demoralizing and the water/Gatorade stations and porta-potties were sparse in the last 6 miles, but it was not horrible. Overall, this was a great experience. The expo was nothing special, but the finisher's necklace and tee-shirt were great. This was an awesome first marathon experience and it makes me want to do this one again.

"Hilly and challenging, but worth the effort!" (about: 2005)

3 previous marathons | 1 Nike 26.2 = Nike Women's Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

I enjoyed the race. However, there were a few logistical errors. The 5-mile marker was off by almost a 1/2 mile; it was set up at about the 5.4-mile mark. This was a pretty major error. The hills were pretty brutal. However, it was definitely worth it when you crossed the line and got the necklace. Also, as a faster runner, I had to cross through the runners still on the course to get to the shuttle buses! That was very dangerous.

There were hardly any port-a-potties available before the 1/2 and full race split.

This was my second marathon and my first Nike Marathon, and I thought it was a fantastic marathon. Beforehand I was a little nervous about the hills, since it is San Francisco, but if you've done any hill training it really wasn't that bad. The course, weather, and spectators were all incredible! My only complaint would be that the expo isn't that great; since it is sponsored by Nike, there are no other vendors there, and marathon clothing sold out very quickly.

"This will become a regular run on my calendar..." (about: 2005)

4-5 previous marathons

I ran the half marathon.

It's San Francisco, you know it will be hilly.

Corrals were handled very well.

Only one complaint: work out the bag check!!
