Beautiful but very hard course. Sponsors ran out of everything for runners (walkers started much earlier); only size large (?) shirts at the finish. Loved the men in tuxedos and Tiffany finisher's necklace. The course was boring for the last four miles. You cannot get enough hill training if you're from Texas for this marathon! Very proud that we finished! Expo was a waste of time.

So beautiful. The hills are huge, the sites are incredible. It was a tough and fun course. Lots of course support, including fresh socks and blister Band-Aids. So well supported.

"TNT WAS AWESOME" (about: 2005)

WOW!! Best one word to describe this as it was my first marathon. I decided to race with TNT because I lost my father last Decmber to cancer. What a tribute to my father. The course was beautiful, the hills kicked my butt but with the beautiful scenery the pain went away when you turned the corner to the next amazing site. This was an awesome way to see San Fran!
Nike did a great job and raised more money than I ever thought could be raised!

"Lonely if you aren't with TNT" (about: 2005)

If you aren't going to this race with Team-in-Training then be prepared to be a minority. My friend and I didn't realize how big TNT was at this race and felt like outcasts. Most of the spectators were also with TNT and were only cheering for their TNT runners.

Also disappointing 'expo' with only Nike products available (as I had been warned). Nike had also planned poorly with the sizing of their apparel and had over-ordered the XS and S sizes and not ordered nearly enough M & L (those sizes were sold out already when I got to town Fri. evening).

Good temps though (but too much fog to see very far). The beginning of the course had great scenery, but the up-and-back at the end and loop around Lake Mercer were tough. I will probably do the race again though to get the necklace.

"Wonderful first marathon" (about: 2005)

This was my first marathon and I chose one of the hilliest cities in the US! It was a wonderful experience... even with the hills. It was very scenic. I also loved the necklace! It would have been nice to get a medal also... even a cheap one... just to display with my others.

To work on: Not even enough potties. Come on.... It's a women's marathon. We need twice the potties! I stood in line over 10 minutes to go to the bathroom.

That being said, I hope to do this marathon again one day!

"Challenging course-great necklace medals!" (about: 2004)

This course was very challenging, i ran fine the first half, and it wasn't the hills that were so bad, it was the psychological frusration of the course for me. While in Golden Gate park- running down the flat road- where you see everyone passing you the opposite way-'how far do i have to go till I turn around?' And the end, when you come out to the refreshing ocean air- and see the finish line, only to realize that you have to make a 5 mile u-turn to get there. But the Tiffany's necklace as a finishers medal was a fantastic idea- i wear mine all the time, and it gets peoples attention, so i am always telling them about TNT and how they can help. It was a good experience overall- but don't ask my knee the same question...

Run like a girl at the women's marathon. Not only do you get a running tour of beautiful San Fran but you have the most gorgeous running weather. The course was so scenic I didn't even realize I was running a marathon until I hit mile 17. The best things about this race: The course (not that hilly), the Tiffany's necklace (and the gorgeous men in tuxedos handing you the necklaces at the end), and the weather. The worst things about this race: No race merchandise for purchase (slim to none), race packets were empty (you don't get your t-shirt until the end), and there was a water stop missing around Lake Mercedio!!!

There should be water and Gatorade stops on BOTH sides of the road. The course became terribly crowded at each stop.

Lousy expo; very few spectators and many weren't bothering to cheer; lousy post-race nourishment (who wants to drink green tea and soy milk after running for hours? Where's the orange juice? And ice cream FOR SALE?); lousy goodie bag (one bite-sized Luna Bar????.) Come on, Nike! You can share some of your mega-wealth with hardworking runners. How about free socks and free sweatbands that cost you 10 cents to make? The race was all about Nike marketing. It broke all the rules: new socks and chocolate during the race? Try NOTHING new on race-day! How about something other than more Luna Bars - perhaps pretzels or something else salty?

The course had some lovely spots - Cliff House, Great Highway - but other spots were disappointing. The hills made it a terrible course for first-timers (which I'm not). The hill at mile 24 was simply cruel. The online info was terrible; the map was unreadable; there was no info about how spectators could track runners to different spots; and the elevation chart had NO altitude guide! Fortunately, the post-race shuttles were relatively prompt. It's a shame this race was so disappointing because SF is a terrific city.

"I couldn't have asked for a better experience!" (about: 2005)

1 previous marathon | 1 Nike 26.2 = Nike Women's Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first full marathon, and I am so glad I chose this particular race! The course was difficult, but the spectators, aid, and finisher's necklace made it more than worth it!

Most everyone has commented on the obviously wonderful aspects of the course - chocolate from Ghirardelli, Luna Bars and Clif Shots, Gatorade endurance formula, and the cell phone station. All of these made what is normally a difficult run much more bearable. I'm not gonna lie and say that this was an easy run - it WAS 26.2 miles with quite a few hills (although it was much flatter than the SF Marathon course). My goal was 4:20 and I finished in 4:05:06 - just goes to show that the hills are tough, but very doable.

I've run in 3 other major (13.1-20 miles) races this year, and this marathon was BY FAR the most elaborate, and, yet, the most organized of them all.
I hope to get the women of my family to at least walk the half marathon next year, and I will be there to run the full once again. I highly recommend it!

One side note: make sure that while you're chugging along, trying to just keep moving one foot in front of the other, you take time to appreciate the gorgeous ocean views while you run along the Great Highway. The waves were breathtaking, and it (almost) keeps your mind off how difficult a full marathon really is!
