"Good race, but no beer!" (about: 2004)

As with every marathon I've run, the one remaining coherent thought in my head upon crossing the finish line was 'Where's the beer'? Sadly, there was none. It's not that it ran out early or that it wasn't cold...it was that there was none! Maybe it's just me, but I find that unforgiveable. Other than that, everything was great. The hills are not steep but gradual. The course takes you through nice parts of Dallas. The weather was almost perfect. Overall, a great race for the non-drinker.

"Fun Texas run!" (about: 2004)

Fellow runners (especially Roxanne from Waco) were great! And, the water stations were wonderful - lots of beverages and food of all sorts. They lied about the hills!

"Beuatiful course but ouch, where's the water?" (about: 2004)

I agree with everyone else, the run was beautiful but there was not enough water. The weather was entirely too hot to have not had enough water stations. I'm not big on PowerAde but I was taking everything I could during this race. It is a baby marathon, I believe it will turn out to be very nice in the years to come.

"Outstanding, except the hells!" (about: 2004)

Everything was stellar except the course layout. Hilly is good, but this was helly. They could've done better than this. Don't count on PR's here, use this as a trainer instead for a better course like OKC where you can PR as a result of this torturous workout.

Support, water, Powerade (weak), snacks, medals, T-shirts and food were awesome. Wonderful finishing environment where we can wander around the huge court or inside the huge hall to eat.

"Good first marathon" (about: 2004)

1 previous marathon | 1 Big-D Texas Marathon

This was my first marathon and I enjoyed it very much. The course was very hilly, which I did not like, but the parts of town we ran through were nice.

The humidity on race day did cause me some problems as did the spacing of the water stations. I think it would be better to have a water station every mile. Many of the stations were even farther than 2 miles from each other and this got to be really bad for me at the end of the race.

Also, I had just run the Motorola Half Marathon in Austin and compared to the crowds that were at this race I was a little disappointed for how few people were at this Dallas Marathon. I was looking forward to the spectator awards and was disappointed that they cancelled it. Hopefully they will have it next year.

However, I would run this race again. Overall, I had a very good first marathon experience.

This was my first marathon, and I was glad it could be this one. Extremely well organized, fun, great support from the spectators and aid people. It seemed like it was pretty hilly, which some more experienced runners confirmed for me, but the scenery was great. Medals, t-shirts, food and drink were all high quality.

"Beautiful tour of Dallas" (about: 2004)

This was my 26th state. I liked running along the large lake, and the beautiful neighborhoods and parks. I thought the organization was good, especially for an first-time event.

The hills were a welcome surprise, and weren't too difficult. The aid stations were friendly, fun, well stocked, and plentiful.

I think they could have run off more maps at the packet pickup point. Also, I couldn't understand the guy with the microphone before the marathon due to the echo. Minor stuff. Otherwise, great job!

"Very well organized" (about: 2004)

3 previous marathons | 1 Big-D Texas Marathon

This race was extremely well organized. The T-shirts were the best I've ever seen at any race. Plenty of food, water, etc. The spectators were very supportive (they're competing for prizes too), but there were not a lot of spectators on the course because it runs mostly through neighborhoods. Finally, don't listen to anyone who tells you this course is flat!!!! There are plenty of hills. They were not long, but many were steep. This is coming from someone who lives and runs in Albuquerque where hills are unavoidable. Overall though, a great race!!

"Challenging Race Conditions" (about: 2004)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Big-D Texas Marathon

The Big D was a real challenge because there were lots of hills and that combined with middle to high seventies temperatures made it very difficult. As a result, times were much slower than anticipated! Of course, a race is a race, but if you want fast times, better check out Austin! Actually, the Big D would be a good training run for Boston if it were not so close to Patriot's Day!

"Difficult course with great water stations!!!" (about: 2004)

2 previous marathons | 1 Big-D Texas Marathon
COURSE: 2  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This course was much \difficult than decribed on the website. There were hills, hills, hills!!! The 'slight inclines' were HILLS! As soon as you caught your breath from one hill, you were starting another! I think that I deserve more than a medal for completing this race! At least a finishing T-shirt to wear home!!! The water stations and course support were great! It was very well organized and had great sponsors! I was impressed with everything except the course!
