"A 'B-' marathon, nice flat course" (about: 2003)

Nice flat course, good organization, perks are free marathon socks and shirt. I've run it 3 years and the medals are cheesy. This could use great improvement. Put the money you pay for socks into the medal! Little support from crowds even on the first loop. Watch out for the humidity if you are not used to it.

"A fun marathon from start to finish" (about: 2003)

I ran this marathon twice and the folks that put this together did a great job. From the pre-race party the night before through the race and at the post-party, everyone and everything went perfect. Lots and lots of fun.

"A great first time marathon" (about: 2003)

This was my first. It is a small run so you are more than likely going to be running alone. The course is flat and scenic; the LSU campus is nice. The spectators that were there after the first loop were supportive. Some even had water and sprayed water as you passed. Nicely organized. Baton Rouge is a great place to explore. Will and am running again - if not '04 then '05.

"Great low key marathon." (about: 2002)

I set the course record in 2002 and think that this marathon is an excellent one. There weren't too many spectators, but the ones who were out there were great. Though I ran alone the entire race, it was fun cheering on the other runners on the second lap. If I still lived in the area I would do this marathon again.

"Wonderful place to finish your 50 States Marathons" (about: 2003)

The red carpet was out for me when I finished a marathon in all 50 states at the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon. They made a plaque and a banner to help me celebrate. What a wonderful down-home feeling for the race. Great way to experience Louisiana!

"Great course" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 1

The course was great and volunteers were good on the first loop. The water stations were empty of volunteers on the second loop (except for the great ones at mile 10), but water and Gatorade were there. There was very little spectator support on the first loop and none on the second.

I'm still waiting on finish results to be posted 3 1/2 weeks later.

The mental health awareness participants were a big plus. Kudos to the group.

"Growing into a wonderful marathon" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

I ran this race in 2000, 2001 and 2003 and have run four other marathons to compare. This race is really growing. Starting out in 2000 with limited support, unmanned aid stations and finishing with a generic medal. 2003 was so much better. Support has grown -more aid stations - having aid stations staffed - better after-race party. Same course, better atmosphere.

A Runner from Texas (11/3/2002)
"Beautiful Fast Course." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

This was a great course. We ran it in 2002. The weather was perfect and the course runs thru LSU and the neighborhoods. The course is double loop and is rather curvy, but the scenery is great.

The post-race massages and alligator were great. There was some confusion about the availability of a pasta dinner, we asked and they said no, we went and ate and came back and there was one.

The race promised a singlet and we were expecting a running material but it was cotton, would have preferred a t-shirt instead. The free socks were also great, and the finisher's medal was nice.

Also no real fan support so you will run mostly by yourself, but the fans that are there were great. Thanks to lady with the 'You Own The Road Sign'

"It's nice and low key." (about: 2001)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 2

It's a nice race to get ready for a bigger marathon. It's very low key and relaxing. However they need more volunteers to help with traffic and water stations on the second loop.

A Runner from New Orleans, La. (10/31/2001)
"A quite peaceful run that is very low key." (General Comments)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 1

A good marathon to start with if you run two or more marathons a year.
