COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 A double-loop course will turn away a lot of runners, but this one is not so bad: two loops around the lake, through the LSU campus, and through tree-lined neighborhoods make it worthwhile. They need to close more of the roads we ran on, but otherwise the organization was great, including the gifts: two NICE race shirts, race socks, and slippers. And the cajun food for both the pre-race and post-race parties was delicious! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 Incredible home cooked pre-race food--many goodies (sox,singlet,tech t-shirt)-- FRIENDLY PEOPLE!! Race day organization very good, water/sports drink stops adequate. Sunny, the humidity & temp climbed quite a bit during the race. Blew past the unmarked port-a-potties until near crisis at the start of the second loop. Pretty neighborhood/scenic LSU campus course, mostly flat, made for a fast time but very little crowd support. This is a small event that deserves to be bigger. The commitment and enthusiasm of the organizers is quite impressive. Post race awards/feast were outstanding. Thank you Baton Rouge for a fantastic marathon experience! | |

 "warm day, scenic course, 2nd loop trouble" (about: 2005)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 December 3rd of 2005 was a warm day and I had a strained medial collateral ligament in the left knee so the usual fast course was slow for me at 4:57. I'm typicially under 4:00. The course was very scenic and the first time around with the 1/2 marathoners was good. The second loop was not. Temps had warmed, some aid stations became unmanned, no spectators at all, and I was nearly run over by a pickup truck going way too fast on a marathon course that was no longer marshaled very well. I had to argue with the driver about right of way. It was the closest I've ever come to being run over in a race or in training. A bike rider assisting another marathoner had to help me fend off the verbally abusive pickup driver. Much thanks to him. Accessories were nice, i.e., medal, shirts, socks. I'm a 50-stater so I probably won't be back anytime soon. I'm happy to have survived. My negativity comes mostly from the inconsiderate driver, unmanned aid stations and my strained ligament. I'm sure others' comments are more favorable. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 2004 was my fourth time to run this marathon. I really liked the early Dec. run over the early Nov., date as it was much cooler than previous years. Also previously I complained about cheesy medals. In 2004 they came up with great looking medals (well done!). This is a nice flat course. If you are looking for a Saturday race this one is a must. Nice extras, two shirts, socks and gloves worth more than the money spent. The money was spread extremely well and hats off to a job well done. It is a double-loop course, and the support is weak on the second loop, but other than that, P-E-R-F-E-C-T. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 1 Good marathon for first-timer or old-timer. Flat, flat race based on a double-loop. First loop is running with 1/2 marathoners which shrinks to a much narrower field at the 13.1 mile mark. While the course on paper looks like a nightmare, it was well marked and major intersections were well directed by police. Support was good, but restrooms were scarce - could use 2 more locations. 'Gator' gumbo at the end along with massage tent provided camaraderie and recovery. Thanks Baton Rouge, a run you should be proud of! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 1 I appreciated the volunteers... they were very encouraging. Some constructive feedback for those attending to the water stations is that they could be more prepared. A runner doesn't have time to stop while they open a package of cups and then pour the water. It's helpful if they are ready as the runners run by. In most cases, they were prepared. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 1 Organizers of this race are extremely friendly and try to please. The course is flat with a fair number of curves but the scenery with the race around the lake and the surrounding homes make for a pleasant distraction. The pre-race dinner the night before the marathon is the best I have ever had; a little spicy, but hey, this is cajun country. The medals this year were awesome. The only drawback I found was one water station was unmanned on the second loop of the course. Overall I would give the organizers of the race an 'A' for effort and for providing a great course. |
