Course? You are running along the rim of the Grand Canyon. Out of control.

Support? Best ever in a small race.

Goodie bag? Makes you want to call your friends and brag about it.

Spend the money, travel to this race and you will remember it the rest of your life. #1 small marathon in the USA.

Is all that I can say. To run along the rim is something else. I love the small races and rate this one up with the best of them.

The altitude will work you and that hill at mile 20 is tough. But what a blast I had the entire way.

If you get a chance to run this race do so.

This is the toughest marathon I've ever run, but also the most beautiful, rewarding, and well organized marathon. The first 16 miles are along the rim of the canyon, with the final 10 on dirt roads through a national forest. I was lucky lucky enough to see a tarantula crossing the road! Sure there are some tough hills to climb, and the 7,000 foot altitude can make breathing a bit difficult - but trust me when I say it's all worth it.

This is a great small race. The course is one of the most beautiful that I have run but also one of the toughest because of the altitude. Incredible local support for putting on the race. I felt like every local organization and business was helping out in some way. With no spectators on the course and a small field, it can be lonely. Incredible goody bag and free giveaways. The race director is not a runner but you could not tell by how well the event was organized.

This is an awesome race, challenging, fun, well organized, great race bag goodies, very nice medals and shirts and a super kind race director. coach buses took us to the start so we road in style. now this is by far the most challenging course i have done but totally so much fun!! the volunteers were super supportive and i love that it was a cup free race, no litter- how nice! muddy, hilly and just a downright good time! thanks again to The Grand Canyon Marathon for putting on a great event! we were well taken care of out there! Those big races could learn a thing or two from wonderful smaller races like this one! Run it!

"Awesome small race" (about: 2011)

Well organized small race (capped at 300 marathoners). Easy bus ride from Tusayan IMAX to the start line at the rim. Course is 16 miles along the grand canyon rim (8 out and back) then 10 on dirt fire roads through the forest. Challenging due to being at 7000 feet and constant hills! Bring your own water bottle, no cups at water stations to minimize trash in the national park. Can be very cold, snowy, icy, and muddy in November.

I ran the full, and keep in mind it's a completely different experience than the half. The first half is on the rim, and last half of the full is on dirt roads: quiet and lovely. They do a great job with this race, both course and logistics. Though the spectators are few, they make up in quality what they lack in quantity. Good, inexpensive lodging is in proximity to the finish. The only thing I didn't like was the half marathon finish (Mile 16 for the full) with all the spectators cheering 'Almost done!!' and crossing under the finish line banner with 10 miles left to go. Also, I didn't care for all the cattle guard crossings, but I'm not sure what they can do about that. I would completely recommend it, and cant imagine a better race for the state of AZ.

Great people, great views, great support and a few great hills. Wait a minute... I ran Leadville a few years back, and by comparison, GC's hills were speed bumps. I enjoyed the entire event. Did I mention the prizes and giveaways?

This is a beautiful but tough course with altitude and hills. Volunteers and RD were fantastic. Race awards are unique. Lots of swag pre and post race. The only downside was the electrolyte solution. Started cramping at mile 10 and noticed other runners with similar problems. Would do again. Plan to stay and see the sights.

This is a great race. The course is the toughest I have ever run. The views of the Grand Canyon are amazing. The race directors are great. Nice, small field; nice tech shirt, swag and medal. The grand hotel is the place to stay - right across the road. Nice post-race party with live music. Also, you carry your own water bottle. The only drawback was the pasta party at Pizza Hut; it was so-so. Overall, I had a great experience and met some nice people.
