"Fun, hot, and excellent organisation." (about: 2002)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

My first road marathon. The organisation was great and the English-speaking staff were very helpful.

Doing the same route loop becomes repetitive though. The salted bread at the stations was a God-send and the atmosphere afterwards was brilliant.

First time to Russia as well, and I would recommend this experience to all who are fascinated with Russian culture.

...next stop, St.Petersburg Marathon - see you in 2003!

A Runner from New York (4/23/2002)
"Golden Domes of Kremlin" (General Comments)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

The course is beautiful. I wish it was not two loops but one, but seeing fantastically beautiful Kremlin and St.Basil's Cathedral more than once is actually a great bonus. The organizers are very friendly, helpful and professional. Moscow is a very interesting and safe city.

A Runner from Moscow, Russia (9/14/2001)
"2001 race in rain" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

As already noted, one downside is that the course consists of 3 loops - kinda boring once the novelty of running along the Kremlin walls wears off. The organization was OK, with an occasional kink (I was not allowed to register under my yellow chip number, was given a black chip instead). Because it rained pretty hard, the crowd was non-present save for loyal friends and family. Overall, it wasn't too bad, OK for the 'marathon tourist' type. Some colorful types running: one barefoot dude in chain armor (not sure if he finished), a 12-year old girl (with a much better time than me :(

A Runner from Ireland (5/2/2001)
"Good fun but not very exciting course" (about: 1997)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

I ran this marathon in 1997. It was my first one and so I can't say if it doesn't measure up to others, but the crowds were enthusiastic and the organization seemed to go without a hitch. There were water cannons at certain points to cool down. The course is quite boring as it had to be run just over two times and is relatively flat. A good race to go and do if you also want to take in the experience of a city with a difference.

Ilia Loubenski from London, England (9/24/2000)
"Not bad" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 4

As it was my first marathon, there is not much to compare with. The course is good: practically flat, starting at Red Square with some nice views on the way. The only disadvantage - it's composed of smaller circles so you run over the same place several times. The weather was ideal - around 16C with no direct sun and light wind. Around 1,500 participants in the marathon race (it's also 10k race). So if you're not afraid of travelling to Moscow it could be a good run to consider.
