Ian Budd from Shropshire, England (9/13/2004)
"Good course & organization, spectators a bit quiet" (about: 2004)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Robin Hood Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

Good course with slopes on first half, flat second half. Route included plenty of features including the historic lace market, Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Hall & Park, National Watersports Centre and back along the River Trent.

Good on water, gels & sports drinks. Good on marshalling. Choice of medal or excellent lace panel at the end.

Spectators were a bit quiet & sparse on the second half of the course - perhaps reflecting the 10,000 participants in the half-marathon in comparison to 1,000 in the marathon.

The Robin Hood Marathon (organized by Sweatshop) is one that I'd happily recommend and book in for again next year.

A Runner from Austria (10/3/2001)
"nice town, non optimal organisation..." (about: 2001)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 1

In 2001 the organisation of the robinhood-marathon wasn´t very good, maybe because the race originally was planned to be canceled. The course in the first half was nice, the second not. Only water was given up to mile 23, then some power-gel and so on, toooo late for all the runners! Also there are problems with the results, up to now I dont get it! Nottingham is very nice, worth to be seen, if you wanna do the race, do it just for fun and take your own drinks, bananas, energy,... with you. At last, not to forget, start at the front of the line, because all the half-marathon-runners are also there!

"Overall enjoyable but...." (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 2

First half of the course very good, crowds much smaller than I was expecting.
Two main problems, most of the marshalls on the second part of the course did not appear to have much interest in what was going on, I was nearly hit by cars twice because marshalls were on the other side of the road sheltering from the rain!
Also the results are very slow to appear on the Web Site. Still waiting after six weeks.

A Runner from Preston England (10/23/2000)
"WELL ORGANISED FRIENDLY MARATHON" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

A figure of eight course means you pass the start area and thus see your friends, family etc. Although over 9000 runners, no problem for the good runners to start right at the front. Testing first half, but flat second. The run incorporates a half marathon, so with only about 1200 doing the full marathon, it got lonely on the second half. Excellent framed 10 inch square
Nottingham lace panel depicting Robin Hood for all finishers. Plenty to do for
spectators including tombolas, death slides, clothing sale and rides/bouncing castles for the kids.Plenty of fast food outlets. Changing and baggage areas in large marquees at the start/finish area. Limited showers.
Very few spectators on second half of course. Plenty of local sites to see including City centre, Nottingham castle, Nottingham Forest football ground, Nottingham racecourse,Trent bridge cricket test match ground, lakes and the river trent.
