"All in all one of the best small marathons around." (General Comments)

The scenery is hard to beat. I never believed that there was anywhere on Lake Michigan that the water could be that blue and clear. Traverse City is one of the gems of the midwest.

"GREAT COURSE!!!!!!!" (General Comments)

This was my 26th marathon and is now
one of my favorites. Nice people and one
of the most beautiful courses I have ever run on. I have run the Seaside Marathon in Oregon, this course has more
shoreline views. I will be back!

"Spectacular Scenery ... Memorable Marathon" (General Comments)

Hal Higdon summed it up well when he noted that the beauty of the Bayshore Marathon is 'a well-kept secret'. It shouldn't be that way much longer. An out-and-back, well-shaded, flat-as-a pancake course along the shores of West Grand Traverse Bay (not Lake Michigan as our friend from Atlanta notes in her/his comment), this is a PR course if there ever was one. Bayshore offers a runner-friendly event that is efficiently organized, with well-staffed aid stations, the '99 race offered an awesome t-shirt and classy medal, with a great start and finish on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College. Of the ten different marathons I've run during the past three years, this one remains #1 for course scenery and friendliness by organizers and runners. I hope to run Bayshore again!

Well organized, easy and very scenic course away from the big city crowds. I can definetly recommend this race.

"All around wonderful low-key marathon!" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

Bayshore is a beautiful, scenic course that follows the Lake Michigan shoreline for the majority of the run (with forest, fields, and vacation homes on the opposing side.) First-timers and recreational marathoners will enjoy the ease of the course accompanied by the sights and the friendliness of spectators and volunteers. Those looking for a PR may be successful as the course is virtually flat and can be very fast. In addition, the race is well organized and set in a wonderful resort town in Northern Michigan on a Holiday weekend with plenty other activities to make the trip worthwhile. Bayshore does not have the hype of a big city mega-marathon but is every bit as satisfying and much more personal. I would recommend this marathon to everyone.
