"Course was poorly marked returning thru Wildwood" (about: 2015)

First, this is an excellent run overall. I've finished twice, and very much enjoyed it both times.

Only issue was returning thru Wildwood. The turn off Corey Rd. into the park was poorly marked (poor sign location). I turned into the adjoining neighborhood, not noticing the paved trail that we were supposed to follow until I doubled back out of the neighborhood. The runner following me made the same mistake, and the runner behind her only spotted the trail because she saw that we were confused. I seem to recall that in 2013 a race official/volunteer was posted there to ensure we stayed on course. Maybe we need to run close enough to touch the sign?

Similarly, in Wildwood, the first right turn was at a train intersection, marked with a Metropark sign (white with black print, didn't mention the race) and white tape on the ground; no person there to direct. This was the first turn not marked with a blue sign-yellow arrow, so it was very confusing. A second confusing trail intersection (also right turn) had NO sign, but at least a person to direct. And returning past the 'manor house,' no race personnel were apparent, so relay participants tried to guide us thru that segment.

Did you run out of blue signs? And volunteers?

My only problem was with photos taken. Not all that were taken of me were made available. I also missed out at getting a pic in front of the finishers wall, as I had no idea there was one. Some explicit signs would have been nice.

"Great race - would do again!" (about: 2015)

My comments are for the half marathon - finished in 2:08 to give context. It was the first time I have run Toledo and did so due to all of the positive comments from the year before. I thought everything was extremely well done and would definitely do again.
Positives - course was scenic, flat and you end going down hill towards the finish and then into the stadium. Glass finisher's mug was a nice touch. Good selection of food and beer at the end. Parking was easy. Weather was perfect. Runners were friendly and had good race etiquette. Volunteers were plentiful and well trained.
Cons (all of these are minimal): Really could have used more porta-potties at the start. Lines for food and beer should be better labeled as you couldn't tell where the food tent started since it wasn't marked. Also, there needed to be more food lines as it took a while to get food (handing out bags was a nice touch). Fan support was OK, probably could go into either category. It would be nice to turn on videoboard so fans can see themselves finish.
Overall I have run 21 half marathons and would put this into my top 5.

Course route was good, though a lot of streets with traffic (maybe looping through Ottawa Park to reduce street?). Stations were excellent, loved being able to get both water and Gatorade.

"more portalets-more spectators-more Toledo" (about: 2015)

I graduated from UT and I considered this race to be a homecoming for me since I haven't been back since I graduated in 2000. We got there early and still got stuck in the portalet lines because the line was so long. It made us not get into our corals and we had a slow start. Also wish more people were present on the course. Nothing gets a runner more motivated than the cheering of spectators; gives you that full body tingle while running...I only got this once during the entire course.

"Still poor course management" (about: 2015)

6-10 previous marathons | 3 Glass City Marathons

I last ran the marathon in 2013 and specifically commented on how poorly marked and directed the course was. I grew up in Sylvania and have run many portions of this course since 1977, so I know the area. Now I read how the women's leader was misdirected and forced to run extra - yet still beat the course record, but forfeited a potential Olympic qualifier. Time for new race management - someone who is on the roads running and understanding the race participant's view. Someone who listens to comments so that mistakes aren't repeated. Others in these comments had concerns about course marking as well.

Easy drive, close hotel. Host hotel gave us 2pm check out- love it. It was helpful to have the large flags indicating water stops. I was able to take gu early then grab water. The course was so pretty. Race shirts were cool and 2 for $30 at expo. Most race expo's are very expensive.

Very enjoyable course as a lot of it is on paved trails or thru a park so it's a nice mix from just roads. Crowd support is improving as the number of runners increases, but is the one thing that could be better. Would like to see some bands added to the course along with other entertainment. The course has a few rolling hills but overall very flat for a marathon. Everything is very well-organized.
