 "Great first-time marathon!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I've been in a lot of races, but this was my first marathon. This race was very well-organized and the support from the spectators was fantastic! The course is flat, with several scenic miles along the beach. I will definitely run this one again and would recommend it for any first-timer! | |

 "Great Race" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I ran this year's race, glad it started at 6:30 b/c temperature 55-65+ rose during the day, The fog at the start helped for about 3 hours. The course is flat and enough runners to find a group to run with. The wind was blowing some and helped the first 20 miles but btw 20-24 miles was a headwind and probably felt stronger than it was because of fatigue. Great race would like to run it again. | |

"Perfect Course and Organization" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon. I was very impressed with the organization of the event, and the tremendous support of the police and volunteers. The pre-race expo was well-organized. The course offered the best parts of Myrtle Beach. Gels and Gatorade were in generous supply at rest stops. Spectators lined most of the course, more in some places than others, and were very encouraging. They even announce the runner's name and where they're from as each runner crosses the finish line... Bottom line: this is a great race and also provides a great opportunity to take the family and enjoy all the attractions Myrtle Beach has to offer. | |

"great wintertime race" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I adored this race--it was well organized, flat, and great for spectators. Plus, volunteers gave me pretty much the best massage of my life at the end, with little wait. I decided to run after the deadline and the race director was very helpful in getting me in. The 6:30 start was a bit early, but the sun rose quickly and let us enjoy a beautiful day. My family was able to watch me at several points, and find fun things to do in Mytle Beach in the meantime. Free beer at the finish line! | |

"Best race in this area" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 After a miserable experience at Charlotte 3 weeks before, I was in for a pleasant surprise at Myrtle Beach. This is a well organized, fun marathon. The start and finish are easily accessible for friends and family. Lots to do in the area. They have activities for kids while waiting for marathoners to finish. Course is senic and flat. Support is fantastic. Volunteers are knowledgeable, friendly and can actually answer questions! The whole atmospere of this race is great. They even manage to keep the relay out of the way of the marathoners. | |

"great race" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This is a wonderful race. Very well organized, good fast course. Spectator support was great, but I can only give 4 stars, since Chicago has better fan support. Saying that the fan suppoprt is not quite up to the support in Chicago is not meant to be negative in any way. The relay exchanges are well marked and not any interference with runners going the whole distance. On a lighter note, it is the only marathon I have ever heard freebird playing multiple times. | |

"Perfect first time race" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The course was flat and manageable. It looped back around after mile 18, and so the highway strip was a bit tedious, but the scenery by the beach and in the first few miles is fabulous. Fans line the streets during most of it and the volunteers are very helpful. Most impressive was the organization of it all. The race director will talk personally to any runner with concerns. The size is manageable, not too small and not too overwhelming. The weather does change a lot from early morning to mid-morning, so wear layers. Overall, though, a fantastic experience! | |

"Great marathon, good ambiance" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This was my first Marathon outside the Netherlands. I really enjoyed the way this marathon was organized. The starting time of 06:30 AM was really an advantage for us coming over from Europe. Spectators, although low in number, are more enthusiastic compared to Europe. The ambiance at the finish line was very good. Beer, food, massage, everything a runner needs after 26.2 miles. I ran a PB over here (which I broke recently again in Rotterdam). I hope to return next year. | |

 "Well organized and fast course" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I enjoyed the course, although more along the ocean would be neat. It is definitely a fast course and a good one for a PR. The biggest hill was the little bridge at Broadway. I was really pleased with the traffic control after seeing someone almost get wiped out in Raleigh because of lack of control. I didn't like the 6:30 start, particularly since it was hovering around the low 30s and it was dark. 7-7:30 would be great. Fans aren't in huge force; but many were very enthusiastic. Good post race refreshments and a nice shirt. It will be a tough choice between this one and Shamrock next year as I don't think I'll run both again. | |

"Great Course, Fun Area to Visit" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon. I thought it was well organized, however the packet pickup was a little confusing. Overall, it was a great marathon. We spent a wonderful 4 days in the area. The golf, meals and lodging were very modestly priced. Less than $50 for an oceanfront room! The course is in fact 'pancake flat'. Volunteers were wonderful. Could have used a few more spectators and possibly some entertainment on the course. I will be there again next year! |
