"Nice scenic Nebraska marathon" (about: 2013)

I wanted to get a Nebraska marathon done and this one worked great for my work schedule. The marathon does have some good long and steep hills, but also has some good down hills. I enjoyed the farm landscape, and running on gravel roads was nice too. The gravel roads weren't chunky, it was more like a rail to trail gravel surface. Great post race food, and showers at the school were nice. It was a great small town marathon.

I agree with all the comments from past years. For a city girl, running on gravel dirt roads in the country surrounded by very tall corn, away from traffic, away from noise, away from other distractions, was the perfect way to spend some quality time thinking about what is important and what is not, while running a marathon of course!!! Race organizers allowed an early start to take some of the pressure off of having to finish within a certain time. Volunteers were very helpful.I would recommend without hesitation.

This is a small marathon put on by the local school as a fund raiser. It starts and finishes at the school so no shuttle buses, yay! Most of it is on fine crushed gravel roads so I wore gaiters. The route is through farm country with fields of crops and the occasional aroma of farm animals. The day was sunny and warm so I carried a water bottle and filled up at the stops. The hills in the last 6-7 miles were a bit challenging. There were lots of post race refreshments with many of them home baked, yum! The shower facilities in the school were a big plus for the long ride home. Thanks to Sue and her crew for a fun day and a job well done!!!

"Good marathon for Labor Day weekend!" (about: 2012)

Susan Kment did a great job organizing this for Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. This race supports the school district and the dinner is on the school campus. I had a personal tour of the school and was so impressed by the love and commitment given by the teachers and community. It just felt good to run for this cause!

Thank you for this event.
I enjoy running easy start marathons with a home town feel, and easy parking. Corn for miles. I wonder if corn is better than gu?

I expect problems with the first time folks putting on a marathon but I really did not see any. Everything was as advertised. The course was hilly and in the country as expected.
Temps were a little warmer than expected but I can't blame the RD for that.
The aid stations were great with a lot of enthusiasm.

The pasta dinner at packet pick up was really good.
A couple of suggestions for next year: Paper cups instead of styrofoam and a mile marker each mile instead of two.

All in all a great run. I expect it to grow as there are not many choices for Nebraska and they did such a good job on the first.

"Great way to earn Nebraska" (about: 2012)

I'm a 50 stater and this was a fantastic way to earn Nebraska. Easy access (Hooper is just outside Omaha, which is where I'd suggest staying), low key race day packet pick up, convienent parking, reasonable entry fee, friendly aid station volunteers, decent dri-fit shirt, nice medal, chocolate milk (!!) at the finish. What's not to love?!

This is a small race, so the course can get lonely. You're basically in the middle of cornfields for the entire race; we were so far in the country, my Garmin gave out at about mile 12. I was glad I packed headphones, which I normally don't use.

The gravel wasn't 'chunky', more dirt road-ish. I wore trail shoes (smart) but wish I'd have done gaiters too. The hills were challenging, as promised, so don't expect a PR...but they aren't intense enough to keep anyone from doing this race. Go for it!
