I chose to run the 2014 (2nd Annual)Hambletonian Marathon in Goshen NY as my 25th Marathon. I am so glad I did as I was not disappointed in any way.Kudos to the Race Director and her Committee The race from start to finish was well organized; and supportive to the runners. It is a challenging course but that's what even makes it more special. The Volunteers were amazing at the race stops and on the course. The course was clearly marked and couldn't have been more beautiful for a Fall marathon. And what an amazing place to finish, on the Hambletonian Track! Do this one! You won't regret it!!

"Challenging course...but beautiful" (about: 2014)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon and was very pleased to have finished. Aside from all things beautiful along the way, I was overwhelmed by the organization, the help (volunteers)...and the spectators...to include musical acts along the way. Being a first-timer I can't compare the course to others as far as difficulty is concerned. I did enjoy that the course involved two legs on the Heritage Trail, offering different terrain along the way.

I look forward to running this marathon next year. Then I will be sure to learn from the the common first-timer mistakes I made this year. Pace yourself and save some juice for the back half.

Overall Awesome Event! !

This was my first marathon and it was incredible. The course was difficult, but very beautiful. It was incredibly well organized- I ended up leaving without realizing I had won an age-group medal, and the organizers were easy to get in touch with and happy to send it. Great event!

This was my first marathon and it was awesome. The course was great, the locals we great & the shirts and medals were nice. THE HILLS ARE BRUTAL!!! Not a PR event, but you will have fun.

I wish ALL races were this well organized. The course is hilly - you're probably not going to PR here - but it's also exceptionally beautiful, taking you through farms and small country lanes, with two sections of trail (one a well-packed dirt track and the other paved).

What others have said is all true: great signage, parking, volunteer support, on-course support, nice shirt, finish line.

I traveled from out of town for this, and it was very easy: There are several chain hotels within 10 miles of the start, and none were expensive. Packet pickup was also available on race day, so you could have certainly driven up from NYC that morning instead of spending the weekend - but with such beautiful fall weather, we enjoyed apple-picking on Saturday as well.

I had not run a small marathon before but what a dream. I started right up front - no waiting behind thousands of other runners. I enjoyed long stretches of running on my own, punctuated by enthusiastic groups of volunteers and locals. The trail portions were lovely - through the trees, with fall leaves drifting to the ground.

The only (small) downside for me was the post-race food. There was nothing without cheese in it (sandwiches and pasta). It would have been nice to see a few bagels for those who don't eat meat/dairy, but frankly, I'm used to bringing my own post-race food these days.

I will definitely return!

This marathon was incredible! All the work and planning that was put into this made it an awesome experience from the training runs to marathon day and the finish on the Historic Track. The course is scenic-great time of the year to appreciate the foliage. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Who would've thought running 26.2 miles could be so much fun! Kudos to all who helped to make this such a success and thank you to the spectators for keeping us smiling :)

I already posted about the positive things about this marathon earlier. The only suggestion I have is about the after events. I finished at 5.30 or so and after getting my medal (which some of the paint was chipped off :(. ), my husband and I went to the food tent. Things were being cleaned up ;( and massage tent was closed up. Maybe keep them open a little longer for us slower runners.

I was part of the Relay Team 'Your Pace Or Mine' and this run was organized in every aspect. From the training runs to the signage, the updates on Facebook we were always kept informed. Kudos to Kathleen Rifkin for an excellent first Marathon and hopefully, one of many to come with so many great volunteers helping out. Thank you, Kathleen, for such a fantastic event!!! We love you!!!
