"A MUST-DO! FANTASTIC! HOOAH!" (about: 2010)

Huge kudos to the Army and Columbus, GA for a fantastic race! The directors, staff, and the INCREDIBLE VOLUNTEERS did an amazing job.

This is the way a race should be organized. Registration fees were low. Check in was a breeze. The course was great, beautiful and challenging. The aid stations were perfectly spaced and well stocked. Medals were original and post-race food was excellent.

But, by far the best part was the FANTASTIC VOLUNTEERS! The soldiers were inspiring and all of the kids who got up early on a Saturday morning to stand along the course to cheer us on every half-mile were absolutely amazing. I have never, in all my races, been supported by that many volunteers. Wow. Thanks!

All I can say is that this is a must-do marathon. Job extremely well done.

"One giant "Hooah" to the Soldiers at Ft. Benning" (about: 2010)

Fantastic inaugural event! The course was scenic, flat and fast as advertised. The volunteers were great. The soldiers were nothing short of professional and inspiring. Can't say enough positive things about this one. Do yourself a favor and check this one out next year. The only challenge for me was using the plastic cups as opposed to paper. Those were a bit hard to manage. But I was thankful for the water nonetheless. Thanks, Soldier Marathon, for a great race!

"Very respectable kickoff!" (about: 2010)

What an honor to run at Ft. Benning on Veteran's Day weekend (and to be the first to comment on this race!). Very respectable inaugural showing! Kudos to the organizers of this event. The registration and packet pick up were very well organized. The course itself was very well marked and I cannot say enough about the support teams and volunteers throughout the course. There was a volunteer at every turn (full dressed soldiers on the base) and even at places of uneven pavement or anywhere there might be a trip/footing hazard to tell the runners to watch their step. Very impressive. The finish was wonderful with the announcer and the soldiers to hang the "dog-tag" medal on the finishers. I have only two suggestions to the organizers to help improve next year. 1) Have some volunteers to direct traffic and parking in the morning as myself and others had to jump out of our cars in a traffic jam and leave our supporters behind (I think this was likely a problem due to the larger number of late entries, like myself, than was anticipated). 2) The choice of plastic cups rather than paper was a bad one. It was not possible to "run" through the water stations and fold the cup to drink. You either had to stop and drink... or wear whatever you were drinking. Other than that, I am not sure there was much to change. Spectator support was minimal (a little more at the beginning on the base), but I am sure that is mainly due to this being the first year. The soldiers and volunteers more than made up for the lack of spectator motivation! Very lovely race. I look forward to seeing how it grows through the years. Thank you all of the servicemen and women who do so much for us... both on and off of the course!

"I can't believe this was inaugural" (about: 2010)

This is how a small race should be done. Everything went off without a hitch; there were plenty of provisions on the course, with GU at just the right places. The course was gorgeous, running along the Chatahootchee River along the Georgia/Alabama border. It was quite scenic.

I can't say enough about the organization. I thought it was outstanding for a small race in its inaugural year. The only thing I would change is possibly having a timing mat (or at least a mile marker) at 13.1.

I will be back!

"Great race and beautiful, flat, fast course!" (about: 2010)

This was my first half and I had so much fun! The energy was amazing, as was the camaraderie. The soldiers and volunteers cheered us on at various points throughout the race. All in all, an amazing experience that I hope to repeat next year.
