"Fox Valley Final 20 a great prep for Chicago!!!" (about: 2013)

1 previous marathon | 1 Fox Valley Marathon

I ran this race as a half marathon a few years ago and this past Sunday to prep for Chicago. The atmosphere at start is awesome, the course is pretty and flat with appropriate water/fuel/potty stations along the way. Could use more spectators along the way, but overall I am VERY pleased!

"My first marathon experience." (about: 2013)

First Marathon

My First Marathon Experience:
Miles 1-17..easy breezy, no pain, fun times! The supporters were great, even had a great couple handing out beers to the runners at Mile 7..haha! Yes, people took them.
Miles 18-20..things start to hurt a bit, feet aching, miles start to seem longer, but its manageable. I feel my pace slowing down.
Miles 21-25..I believe this is the true testament to yourself in the marathon. People were getting sick, getting injured left and right, miles seemed like they were endless, your legs are screaming at you to STOP, and all you want to do is QUIT if you do not DIE first. I even tried counting down from 100 to forget about the pain..I only made it to 87. But you keep on trucking..you dont know HOW, but you do. I managed to not walk this entire marathon. How I did that, I will never know. This by far was one of the hardest things I have ever done mentally or physically. It was painful, hard, and mentally exhausting. 'Just one more step, one more step' is all you can try to tell yourself.
Miles 25-26.2..You know the end is near so you sort of have no choice but to finish strong. Strangely enough my ipod shuffled on Inaya Day's 'keep pushin' track. I believe fate put that one for me! No other song could've been better. When I turned the corner and saw the finish line I saw my amazing boyfriend, parents, and friends there to see me and by then all I felt was exhilarated. I actually literally screamed out loud 'THANK GOD!!' HAHA! Its worth every painful high and low, and I will never forget it!! What a journey!!!!

This was my 2nd year running the Fox Valley Marathon and it was another terrific experience. The course is beautiful as you run alongside the Fox River. I think the many volunteers make the race special - they are extremely helpful and friendly!

This was a fantastic race! It was well organized and reasonably priced. I ran the Fall Final 20 and it was fantastic! My neighbor had signed up for the marathon and told me about the Fall Final 20 as I am signed up to run the Chicago Marathon. What a great concept! A fully-supported, already mapped 20-mile course.

I will be back next year for sure and I can't wait. The course was great and the course support was even better! My husband saw all the support at the finish and has decided to make this his first full marathon next year. I can't wait to run it with him and look forward to another great event.

What a beautiful, scenic and shady course. Well marked, including volunteers at all the turns to help you. Speaking of volunteers, they were hands down, the best most supportive volunteers I've seen. And the spectators were plentiful along the course and enthusiastic! I ran the final 20 mile race and plan to run the full next year.

"Nicely organized, great scenery, great crowd !" (about: 2013)

I thought overall race was great, I will definitely consider doing it again. I thought price was a lil high for suburbs. It was nicely organized, I thought the route had a few too many turns would have liked to run more on the trail, also you should encourage walkers on one side it was frustrating to pass up especially for those that ran in groups and did run walk method.

"Beautiful, wonderfully run race!" (about: 2013)

I immensely enjoyed this race. The course is primarily on the path along the Fox river, and it's a beautiful setting. I was worried it would be crowded, but the wave start worked well and I never felt stuck or slowed by people in front of me. Everything was organized so that it ran smoothly - from the training runs in advance of the race to receiving my unofficial printed results at the end. I couldn't be more pleased to have participated. I have generally thought I wouldn't do the same event twice, but I may actually repeat this one next year because the whole experience was so positive. The pre-race dinner reservations at local restaurants the night before were a nice touch!

This race is great for anyone doing their first Half or Marathon. The people along the path cheer you on and you do not know them. The announcer kept you relaxed and laughing before the race. And hearing your name at the finish line put it over the top. I will be running this race again and again. Thank you to everyone who put this together.

My favorite marathon to date!!! Well supported with great fans!! The runners and pace groups were positive and upbeat throughout the whole race and the spectators were great (having names on our race bibs made it more personal as we had strangers cheering us on by name!) I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and fast fall marathon!
