"Beautiful course, but hilly!" (about: 2009)

It was my first half-marathon. It was very well organized. The course was much hillier than I was prepared for. I will be prepared for next year's race. This has the makings of a great marathon in the future.

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first half-marathon, and it was an excellent experience. It was well organized, and I loved the inspirational quotes along the way. I felt energized by all of the great people participating, and all the Team Ortho volunteers on the course.

The course was challenging, but it made me feel even more accomplished for finishing. I can't wait for next year!

- I love Minneapolis, and this shows it well. Through Mill City and along the river - beautiful!!
- Extremely well organized. Very classy event throughout the entire weekend.
- Hilly course at the beginning (and end on the way back) of the river portion - I liked it for where I am in my training.
- For next year, try to keep the flags perpendicular so we don't miss them; they were blowing around. Also, afterward, the water/food area was confusing and hard to navigate.

I loved this run!!

"Beautiful Course in the City and Along the River" (about: 2009)

Beautiful run in the downtown city environment, and then along the Mississippi into a historic wilderness area. Portions are out-and-back, which adds to the race excitement seeing the leaders and faster runners running towards you. Parts in the wilderness are cool, shaded and quiet; and in the city, it is crowded with spectators. I liked the variety. There is also a variety of terrain, and some memorable hills. The wilderness area had several miles of soft ground, which helped my knees. The views of the city and the river were great, and the water stops and people on the course were Minnesotan... friendly and helpful. Lots of water and gel on the course. I trained with the sports drink HEED, and like it, though I heard some people people prefer their own brand. I loved the finisher's jacket and the medal. I will be back... it's a challenging course that's worth training for to master - not some easy flat highway run. It's a good time of year for a marathon. I met lots of great people.

Wow, what nice day. It was very well run, with lots of water stops. I like the time of the year. I have done over 70 marathons, and this one was awesome. I'll be back for 2010. Great job.

"Lovely Marathon & GREAT volunteers" (about: 2009)

6-10 previous marathons

I traveled from Chicago, praying for good weather, and the temps were perfect! The race was very well organized and volunteers were amazing. Given the ease of public transportation, I'd recommend adding more information on public transportation for getting to mile markers. The finisher's jacket beat the usual cotton shirt give-away, and the outdoor expo was a nice change.

"Best race for my first-ever half-marathon" (about: 2009)

This race was the best race ever! It was completely organized, with check-in, packet pick-up, and parking. I was impressed with the crowds along the route. It was a gorgeous route with plenty of beautiful views of downtown. I will definitely be running this again next year and hopefully be running the full instead of the half!

"Beautiful course in downtown Minneapolis!" (about: 2009)

I ran the half-marathon. I thought the course was very scenic and well marked. There were some pretty steep hills, but that would be the only negative that I can think of for the course. The water at the finish line was in tiny cups, and there wasn't very much of it. I would suggest bottled water or bigger cups next time, especially for such long races!! The sports drink was gross. There were very enthusiastic spectators along most of the half's course. I would most definitely run this race again!!!

"A must-run marathon" (about: 2009)

This is my one of my favorite marathons I have run. It was my first marathon under 4 hours, so the course was pretty good - no complaints. Plenty of water stops. Pacers were great. The city was beautiful, and there was a good turnout of people cheering you on. I flew in from NY and stayed right there at the Depot Marriott. It was just an overall great experience.
