Mark,

We just wanted to Thank YOU and ALL involved in last weeks Fargo 'Rocks' Marathon for such a spectacular experience. It was our first time participating in this event and I cannot express how impressed we were with the whole process.
As you know, we are the 'Canadians' who, registered 'Late',(a BIG 'THANK YOU' to the gentleman who answered the phone late Monday Night.) Pulled into town 'Late', and parked our motor home, not where it was suppose to be parked, 'Late!' and all along the the way, you and you staff were so accommodating. How impressed were we??? VERY!!!
Thank you again for the Great time (we have told everyone) for one of the best Marathon experiences we have ever had. We look forward to being there again next year. (Bringing of coarse, more Canadians!)

Fargo marathon was very flat and provides a great opportunity for a PR. The fans along the course and bands were great and the people are very happy you are running in their city. The late(8:15) marathon start time is great for those of us who enjoy a little extra sleep. The course was kind of boring and mostly through residental streets but the fans made it interesting.

Put Fargo on your must do list. You will not be dissapointed! Table top flat course, awesome spectators, ample parking, and how bout that inside Fargo Dome finish! Good enough for a PR and BQ for me. I'll be back!

"Amazing Race, Excellent for Beginners!" (about: 2012)

This was my first time running the Fargo Marathon and I was extremely pleased. The organization was great, and the fans and community support were amazing! I really enjoyed the rock and roll theme and the residential route the marathon takes. You never know how windy Fargo might be and running through residential areas provides an excellent wind block. The only minimal complaint I have would be the numerous turns throughout the race but it's nothing overly excessive. I would recommend this race to all runners with a great opportunity to PR!

-Excellent organization at the packet pickup, and lots of good merchandise at the expo.
-Loved getting a visual of the finish line before the race.
-Lots and lots of bathrooms always available. I never had to wait once! Also liked being able to use a 'real' bathroom right before and after the marathon.
-Volunteers were helpful, and always was able to find someone if I needed something.
-Race director emailed gave us a heads up that it would be a hot day so we could prepare (Especially helpful since I travelled from Oregon)
-Lots of people had sprinklers ready to deal with the heat, really made a difference.
-I did the 5k the night before, and loved having 3 medals to show for the Go Far Challenge.
-If it was a hot day I would have preferred to start earlier, but never had any issues dealing with half marathoners (but I'm kind of a snail)

What a beautiful day for a race! This is the second time I've run this marathon so I understand why the full started after the half. It corrected all the problems at the finish line. If the heat had continued it would have been hard for the full but the sudden change in temperature was an answer to prayer! Thanks for the well organized race! A great race to run if you are looking for a BQ or PB

"Fargo ROCKS!" (about: 2012)

I ran my first half marathon in Fargo last year and had a fantastic time. I decided it was only fitting to run my first full in Fargo as well. Flat, fast, friendly and FUN! The course runs through many residential areas and people sit out in their lawn chairs for hours cheering on the racers. Children line the streets offering a 'high 5' and a big smile. The volunteers are amazing! From packet pick up to water/aid stations to finish line, thousands of volunteers make this a wonderful experience! Live bands and DJ's along the course pump you up and keep you going. The goodies we received were top notch! An Adidas sinch bag, tech shirt and medal were included. I want to encourage all runners to participate in the GoFar challenge. If you sign up to run the 5K on Friday and any race on Saturday you get your race bag, 2 shirts (one for each race) and 3, yes 3 medals! (one for each race plus one for meeting the 'GoFar Challenge'.) My 13 year old son and I ran the 5K together and have challenged our other family members to at least participate in that event. Anyone can walk/run that distance! Come on out and see what Fargo has to offer you! Counting down the days to next year!

"Fargo Indeed Rocks!!!!" (about: 2012)

Logistics - easy. If you stay in the 2 hotels near the FargoDome then you just walk to everything since the Fargodome is the start/finish/expo. If you stay by the multitude of hotels by West Acres Shopping Mall, there is a shuttle bus service that takes you to/from the race.

Expo - Nice setup inside the Fargodome. Plenty of vendors and not too crowded. Well organized.

PastaParty - I recommend going. Good tasting food, with 2 types of pasta, lefse, bread and even gluten-free options

Course - 95% of it is pancake flat. Just a few hills but nothing too long and easily manageable. Lots of turns though so it's important to try and run the tangents efficiently.

Hydration Stops - Plentiful and well-organized on both sides of the course with Powerade first and water second.

Spectator Support - The residents really come out and support this race. I was surprised how many people lined the course and offering plenty of ad-hoc services. From the two busty blond girls riding on huge, mechanical chickens, the 'Grim Reaper' with the sign that said 'The End Is Near' at Mile 25.5 and the dozens holding signs, the spectators were not only enthusiastic but really funny.

Atmosphere - I was pleasantly surprised how friendly the volunteers, runners and residents were. There were tons of music and bands throughout the course if that is your thing. You never had more than half a mile without some music or band playing.

Volunteers - Enthusiastic, friendly and attentive. Thanks so much!

Organization - Top notch. From expo to the finish was done with perfection. After reading the comments from last year, the organizers decided to start the marathon 45 minutes AFTER the half which proved to be a wise and prudent decision. Never got held up by half marathon walkers and it was a pleasure to have an uncrowded course as well as unobstructed path to the finish.

In summary, the entire city of Fargo really gets behind the race. If you're looking for a fast course, fun and enthusiastic crowds, well organized race that cares about runners' feedback then I highly suggest you consider Fargo. It was marathon #23 for me and definitely a top 5 pick. Thanks to the organizers and the city of Fargo for a fantastic experience.

"Excellent Marathon-Highly Recommend" (about: 2012)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Fargo Marathon

Like another writer, I had low expectations for the marathon. I counted 105 turns (not bends) on the course map and the race was in Fargo, ND. On top of that, the race was going to start at 8:15 which is a late start. Boy, was I wrong on my thinking. This is a great race.

For the size of the expo, it was excellent. It had many options of clothing and quite a few vendors with nice clothes. The swag from the race was nice.

I had read in years past that the marathoners had to fight swarms of halfers so they modified the start times. This makes for a late start for the marathon but it was perfect. Once the halfers left the dome, it was spacious and an exellent place to warm up. Bathrooms were plentiful but probably would help to add a few more outside.

The course is almost entirely treelined. Spectators lined the course, not deep, but on every block. Much better than larger races such as Houston, who brag of the number of spectators. The spectators were awesome and into supporting the racers.

It was excellent not having to compete with halfers at the end of the race. When I did see them, they were wall to wall going the other direction and it would have been tough to have to get around them.

Food wasn't spectacular at the end, but was nice to be able to shower upon finishing.

I would highly recommend this race. It was very well organized unlike my comments and writing :)
