"Wow! Great marathon...a must on the race calendar" (about: 2005)

Perfection. Absolutely nothing to improve on. This is a must-run marathon. The director and his staff are a class act. The basics of the marathon were carried out flawlessly. The pasta dinner was terrific. Speakers were motivating. Race medal and shirt are well beyond the norm. The Fargo Police just did a magnificant job. The community was kind and patient with us intruding on their routines. I was thanked several times on the street by the residents for visiting Fargo. I will leave with warm and fond memories of a great race, wonderful volunteers, and better for visiting Fargo, North Dakota.

"flat course, great support, friendly, great fans!" (about: 2005)

Fargo/Moorhead did a great job for the runners. The course is really flat (the only 'hills' are under/overpasses and a 30' climb out of the river bottom), but there are a number of corners. The streets are well blocked off from traffic, so cutting tangents is easy. Even though the weather was challenging (cold, rain/snow, 30-mph winds) it was a pretty well protected course for the 1st half. The north loop is tougher - more open - so the wind slowed you but making the turn south was fun - you could raise the spinnaker and get your time back!

Overall the support was more than adequate, the volunteers friendly and helpful, and the crowds (!) were great. They had a tougher time with the weather but really hung in there and cheered you on. A very nice medal too!

Ditto on the cost - our hotel (Radisson) was a block from the finish, and cost $70.00 for a double. We hit a Mexican restaurant afterwards, had a great meal, beers and extras for less than $20.00 each. Great waitress too!

Overall a very well done event. If you need North Dakota checked off your list, you will have a great experience at this one.

"great race despite cold" (about: 2005)

Great race, well organized!!! Spectators were the best!!! My friend had to use a porta-potty and unfortunately between mile 12 and 17 there were none, but these nice people let her use theirs!! The course could be rerouted around at the sewage plant though; it's pretty smelly at mile 21. Plenty of water, but I think small water bottles would have been less waste. The weather was horrible with 22 mph winds out of the NNW and snow in the morning, but you can't control that. All in all, I would recommend this marathon highly.

"Great town for a race" (about: 2005)

Fargo is a great town for hotels, shopping and has great dining for prices much lower than those of other marathon host cities. The area is very flat and times will be much faster than those of other races; this will be one of the best places in the nation to get your Boston time. Travel to Fargo is great, with the new airport and easy access to all race related events. I am looking forward to doing the half-marathon in May and hope many others are there with me. Fargo has very flat terrain, but the organizers were able to find the best routes around the Red River and nice residential areas to keep it interesting. This is the first year of the full marathon, but the half marathon in 2004 was a real treat. With barely 30' of elevation variation over the entire course, and the final 6 miles virtually flat, this will be a fast course.

Another benefit is you won't have to break the bank to attend this race. Your dollar goes farther in Fargo!
