I've run both large city and small town marathons and I'd rate this marathon as being reflective of the true spirit of distance running and marathoning. The course is run along a roadway bordering the White River. The size of the field allows you to truly relax, enjoy the scenery of the valley and to participate in an event where a bunch of geniunely nice people gather for a brisk fall run.
Great overall organization and great support throughout the race. I look forward to returning in the future. Thank you to all of those that supported this event and its' runners.

I can't help but say good things about the race, director, help, etc. This was just an amaznig race. If you need to know how flat the course is just ask the numerous people who set PR's. There are plenty of aid stations along the way filled with Gatorade, Water, Gels, even some with fruit. The race directors are some of the nicest and easiest people to work with. Then there is the great food after the race that is just amazing. Some of it home cooked and some not. Enough tought tokeep you filled up for the route back home.

What a great little race! Very well organized, lots of bathrooms, water, Gatorade along the way, snacks at the end. Shuttle bus back and forth from finish line to parking. Very low key, relaxed atmosphere. Good for beginners and veteran runners alike.

What a nice change from the usual HUGE marathons offered. This is a well-run, small marathon on a VERY flat, fast, certified course. Plenty of water stops, etc. along the out and back course. Neat to see the support from the community. Great lunch afterward, including some great home-made soups, etc. Medal is not that exciting, but the race is for a wonderful cause.

For out of towners, there are a bunch of nice, clean, cheap chain hotels (e.g., Hampton Inn) within a few miles of the start. The course is downhill to start then FLAT as a pancake. Only the finish is chip-timed, so this is more like a 'gun time' race, so if you are trying to BQ, you need to be up front at the start. The volunteers and spectators are SO friendly and helpful. There was extremely minimal traffic on the roads, so this was a nonfactor. The medal could be a little nicer though. Post-race food is hot, bountiful and REALLY hits the spot. Logistics are good for a double on the Sunday afterwards in Tulsa, OK (Route 66 marathon), if you're a 50 stater.

After the opening downhill mile, the course is as flat as any. The location is not very conducive for spectators, but is offset by nearly constantly meeting other runners along the out-and-back course as well as the frequency of aid stations.
The pre-race pasta dinner was very good and the variety and quantity of post-race food, as well as availablility of showers at the school was much appreciated.
This event supports a wonder cause and will continue to grow.

This was my first marathon. Loved how easy it was to find. Loved size. Loved short bathroom lines. Loved the downhill start. Loved the kind easy going nature of the runners this event attracted.

I was not sure about the out and back course, but it was really great as you got to see so many people over and over and be able to encourage and receive encouragement along the way. Very scenic course

Can't say enough about this race. The course alone is enough to get me to come back. Could not believe how many water stations and toilets there were. The stations were great with super volunteers. The course was beautiful running along side the White River. I will definately be back. A good cause also.
