"Great course and small marathon" (about: 2013)

I like this race quite a bit. Very easy expo, parking and start area. Course is really nice - flat and pretty. Not much running through the city of Grand Rapids but I liked that. Not crowded at all. I've PRd each time I've run this one and want to run it again.
Pace group are supposed to be good here but the 3:29 one was horrible. They ran too fast the entire race. Don't think pace groups should try to bank time. Don't think anyone finished with them.

"Great First Time Marathon and One to Come Back to" (about: 2013)

Last year my cousin suggested I run the GR Marathon for my first ever marathon when I realized my passport was expired and I couldn't run Detroit where I live. What a great experience. This year, even after running Chicago, I wanted to be part of the 10th Anniversary at the GR Marathon so did the back-to-back. Im pretty sure Grand Rapids will now be on my annual Marathon calendar.

"Awesome course and race commity" (about: 2013)

This was my first full marathon, I loved everything about it from the easy online registration to the frequent email updates with useful info to the expo and packet pick up. The race itself was awesome! Great spectators and signs along the course and encouraging volunteers on a scenic course. Finish line caped it all off with beautiful finishers medals and congratulations followed by great refreshments!

"BEAUTIFUL COURSE, GREAT RACE!" (about: 2013)

6-10 previous marathons | 2 Grand Rapids Marathons

This is a race I would do again and again! The course is mostly flat with a few rolling hills in just the right spots. Many turns keep it interesting and the fall colors in the woods are breath taking. The race director is the best in the world and takes time to greet every finisher. He truly loves his job! I can't wait for next year! PR this year by 13 minutes and another BQ in the books!

"Perfect fall race!" (about: 2013)

2 previous marathons | 1 Grand Rapids Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

The fall colors are spectacular, the course is beautiful, and the run is peaceful. Not a huge crowd, as much of the race is paved trails, but the spectators are very supportive. If you are looking for a smaller, flat, fast marathon that passes through a spectacular kaleidoscope of autumn beauty, this is the one.

"This is my favorite marathon." (about: 2013)

6-10 previous marathons | 3 Grand Rapids Marathons
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This is a beautiful course and the event seems to always have perfect weather. It has just enough gentle rolling hills to keep things mixed up nicely. Support is excellent and the race is very well run. If you're looking for a good Michigan marathon this should be the one.

"They make you feel like a family member!" (about: 2013)

I love this race....from start to finish it is just amazing. I do not understand why anyone can have any negative comments. Don Kern and his team are just amazing. The spectators are very supportive and don't forget all those wonderful and supportive volunteers.

"A 'must do' marathon" (about: 2013)

This is an excellent race. The race director is the BEST! Very personable and fun. I loved the weekly emails, loved his book. The Marathon course, volunteers and post race food were the greatest.

"Off the beaten path great event" (about: 2013)

2 previous marathons | 1 Grand Rapids Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I've done the big city, big race thing. That is fine, but this is a marathon that is like the running I would prefer to do every day. A variety of city, parks, woods, rivers, lakes, roads, bike lanes, etc. The miles tick away over a changing landscape. I truly enjoyed the journey. There is some trade off in sacrificing the big city fan support for a little quiet nature at times, but I was happy to make the trade. Yes, the long path was sloped. Just run the crown and quit crying. If you can't make this event fun (especially when the weather is perfect) it is on you.

"love everything about this race!" (about: 2012)

6-10 previous marathons | 3 Grand Rapids Marathons

I have done lots of races and this is definitely one of the best! Great course, great aid stations (you get more than just water and gatorade), tons of fans, awesome medals/shirts and even post race is awesome.
