"Great Flat Trail Marathon" (about: 2005)

11-50 previous marathons | 2 Seabrook Lucky Trail Marathons
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

This was my second year to run the full marathon distance at this race. They added mile markers and an additional water station. Porta-cans were distributed at each aid station except the new one. The weather was cooler than last year and the view of Galveston Bay was spectacular. This is a must-do race. It is very flat and the runners space out after 3 to 5 miles so the trails are not so crowded. This race sponsors people in need so all net proceeeds are used to benefit others. Each aid station was stocked with water, Gatorade, oranges and bananas. There was a nice post-race meal of grilled hot dogs, chips and drinks.

"Nice small trail marathon" (about: 2004)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Seabrook Lucky Trail Marathon

The course involves four loops of trails with some sections having racers going both ways on the same trail. Being this close to the water made everything very humid. Volunteers and support were extremely good and they should be able to work off some of the rough edges as they get more experience. The year I did it was their first.

"A pleasant surprise!" (about: 2004)

After running the Houston and Austin marathons earlier this year I decided to try my luck running this one, being my first trail marathon I didn`t know what to expect but in the end it exceeded all my expectations. It was well organized; the atmosphere was great before, during and after the race; the volunteers were very supportive as well as most of my fellow runners.
We were lucky that a few clouds kept the temperatures around 70 degrees, otherwise it would have been miserable given the very high humidity of the area.
One more water station would have been appreciated as well as some mile markers.

Overall it is a very nice little marathon right in my backyard.

"Excellent" (about: 2004)

Excellent event, small (by design) due to the narrow trails. Well worth the cost of admission ($30 as opposed to other more expensive runs) and the volunteers were well staffed and they made the event a success. Mile markers (next year??) would be a nice addition. The course was relatively flat, and 95% dirt, so you had the advantage of being able to run fast without the wear & tear of running the distance on concrete.

I'll be back in 2005.
