"Great race for the first-timer" (about: 2008)

The organization was top-notch! It was my first marathon and was thoroughly enjoyable for my whole family. My only complaint would be the traffic that sped by was a little scary. I would love to do it again though.

"Very nice course; friendly small-town race" (about: 2006)

My second time running this marathon. It's a small town that puts on a modest but well-organized event. The course is very nice, flat with one or two gentle inclines that I wouldn't even call hills. Since it's a small-town race, there are only about 200 runners in the half and full marathon combined and very few fans. Which means, it gets lonely on some stretches along the route. ;-) But runners pass each other a few times and support each other by exchanging encouragements, which is very nice.

The weather can get very hot (like in 2004) or rainy and windy (like in 2006), so make sure you train in hot weather for this race.

Plenty of water and Gatorade stations also offering fruit and even PowerGels at 1-2 stations.

Overall, a very nice, chip-timed event in the middle of the summer when there are few long-distance races to run in Ontario. I'm definitely going back next year or in 2 years!

This is the 11th time I've run this race. The first 5 times I ran the half, and the next 6 times I've run the full. I will see you in 2007.

Having done 31 previous marathons, I would have to say to the people of Massey and to the race organizers, "Well done." You more than made all of us feel welcome, and to anyone thinking about running next year, it really is a "friendly marathon" ...see you in 2006, Bill.

Great race!!!! It was my first half marathon. Everyone was very friendly.

I'd like to say "thank you" to the Ontario Provincial Police, reg. force and auxiliary constables for keeping the traffic to a minumum and keeping us safe. GREAT JOB and a BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers!!!!!!!! See you all next year!

"Very scenic, flat, shaded run" (about: 2004)

This marathon is one of the most scenic ones I've run so far. The course starts in the town of Massey, then runs south, crosses the Spanish River, runs along a country road, then turns around and runs along the river and rocks. Small run (only about 60 marathoners, about 150 half-marathoners), well organized and supported by the locals. The race is very flat and easy and it is a Boston qualifier. I would recommend it to anyone interested in running a low-key, friendly marathon outside major urban areas.

Incredibly friendly people and very well organized event. Everything is so laid back and smooth. Being small town, there are not many spectators, but those that are there are very enthusiastic. And the runners cheer each other on. Even the leaders had time to offer encouragement to us lesser lights! A great way to spend a relaxing weekend.

It was a wonderful race. I enjoyed seeing fellow runners encouraging each other. However, PLEEEEEEEEEEASE get rid of the traffic. It was too bad that a cop wasn't out there to pick up the speeders. If it hadn't been for the traffic, it would have been a perfect race. I consider the 'cheerleaders' the runners themselves - VERY ENCOURAGING!

"Excellent and friendly marathon" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

It was an excellent event. Although it was raining and the volunteers outnumbered runners and the runners outnumbered spectators, the run was great. The course is flat and fast on pavement in wooded area along Spanish River. Congratulations to organizers.
