   Best feet forward right to the very end (The Standard)
The 2008 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon in which a Japanese ended four years of domination by Kenyans. Koichiro Fukuoka from Nagasaki won the race in 2:18:10. The women's race was won by Kim Kum Ok of North Korea in 2:36:43. She crossed the finishline hand-in-hand with compatriot Jong Yong Ok who was ruled second by a judge.

Japan’s Koichiro Fukuoka and the Korea’s Kim Kum-ok were the winners of the men’s and women’s races at the 2008 Hong Kong Marathon which also doubled as the 11th Asian Marathon Championships. Fukuoka ended years of Kenyan dominance of the race with victory in 2:16.50. In the women's race Kim Kum-ok out-kicked Jong Yong-ok to win by a slight margin as both women were clocked in at 2:36:40.

Japan's Koichiro Fukuoka won the 2008 Hong Kong Marathon and 11th Asian Marathon championships in a 2:16:50. Zimbabwe's Tendai Chimusasa won the Standard Chartered Hong Kong marathon in a time of 2 hours 18 minutes 12 seconds. He was only eight seconds ahead of second placer Elijah Mutandiro. The Hong Kong Marathon was quite a lucrative race for Chimusasa, as he took in $20,000 in prize money. Chinese runner Sun Wei Wei won the women's event in 2 hours 38 minutes 55 seconds.
