Bruno Fiore stayed on Ed Conrad's heels for the last thirteen miles of the Silicon Valley Marathon. The last one-hundred meters is where Fiore would surge past Conrad and seal the victory. His winning time was 2 hours 41 minutes and 43 seconds.

   Cancer can't keep marathoner from big race (Mercury News)
Tom Kaisersatt crossed the finish line of the Silicon Valley Marathon amidst screaming fans and a wave of golden balloons and yellow t-shirts. Kaisersatt was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer in June. He completed the marathon despite a decreased lung capacity which has limited his road running of late.

This year's Silicon Valley Marathon has come off well dispite initial worries of orgainizer Tom Bradley. Nearly 2,000 runners competed in the race, dubbed ``version 6.0'' by organizers. Instead of touring the area's business districts as in previous years, the course led runners down the Los Gatos Creek Trail, past the lakes and parks of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

   Sandy Jacobson of Canada and Kenyan Simon Sawe win Silicon Valley Marathon (San Jose Mercury News)
Barb Acosta, 42, took third place for the second year in a row and won the Female Masters division each year since she turned 40. Kenyan Simon Sawe took first place, while Andrew Musuva took second. Sandy Jacobson of Canada won the women's division and set a new course record.
