Jacques Sallberg won the men's race at the Surf City Marathon with a time of 2:24:56, followed by Mark Batres at 2:30:20, and third-place Andy Koziatek of St. Louis at 2:35:20. In the women's race, Leng Klukken won with a time of 3:04:52, Nicole Dlalock took second at 3:10:28, and Heidi Pahl came in third with a time of 3:11:58. Participation was up 30% in the marathon from last year.

   Robert Lopez stays on course in long run - Surf City Marathon (Seattle Times)
After beating the leukemia he contracted at age 24, Robert Lopez turned to work for satisfaction, and then finally to marathons. After his first marathon in Portland in 2001, he barefly stopped running. He has run as many as 4 marathons in one weekend, and this Sunday's Surf City marathon will make 198 total since that first in 2001.

   Runner fails at attempt to go three marathons (OC Register)
Charles Bauknecht who planned to run three marathons within a two-day period to raise money for a cystic fibrosis charity failed to accomplish his challenge due to harsh weather conditions. His extreme run started overnight Saturday and lasted into the early morning Sunday. His first lap around the marathon course took four hours on Saturday evening; his second in the early am on Sunday took four hours and 45 minutes. The cold weather and rain prevented him from the third race.

Charles Bauknecht of Costa Mesa intends to run the Surf City Marathon three times to raise $30,000 for cystic fibrosis research. He will run the course at 10 p.m. Saturday, at 2 a.m. on Sunday with a friend and again at 6:50 a.m. with the other marathon entrants. Bauknecht, who started running marathons two years ago, has yet to run over sixty-five miles in a weekend.

73-year-old Huntington Beach resident Dee Anne Davidson is one of 17 seniors who participated in at least one of California's Pacific Shoreline Marathon events last weekend. Davidson believes running to have been that which saved her from becoming a lazy grandma. Most runners were in their 20's and 30's hoping to qualify for the Boston Run later on this year, she remarked, but she and the rest of the senior pack felt quite comfortable despite that.

   Weissman Finds Pacific Shoreline Trail Leads to Victory (Orange County Register)
Bellevue Wash. local Glen Weissman won the Pacific Shoreline Trail Marathon this weekend in 2 hours, 41 minutes, 30 seconds. Robert Leonardo took place as runner up, ending up in the same position he did in last year's race. Erika Aklufi of Santa Monica took victory in the women's division in 3hours 6 minutes and 59 seconds.
