The 2008 New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon celebrated its forty-fourth running with a new course that took runners for the first time into the heart of the French Quarter down Bourbon Street, Rampart Street and St. Charles Avenue. 2005 and 2007 champion Meyer Friedman won the men's race in 2:25:52.    Lucido takes Mardi Gras Marathon in a breeze (New Orleans Times Picayune)
Gabriel Lucido led Sunday's Nokia Sugar Bowl Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans for most of the race before finishing as champion in 2:34:12. Lucido trailed only two half-marathon runners, then had the course to himself when they finished. It was a different story for the women. Chris Purslow of Waco, TX, passed Barbara Holcomb of Cullman, AL, in the final 800 meters. Purslow finished with a personal best of 3:08.43.

Ex-Redeemer-Seton coach Michael Mullan claimed his second victory in Mardi Gras Marathon on Sunday. Mullan, now a Texas resident, first won in 1993 and was overcome with emotion to win in 2001. Jodi Jackson had hoped to finish the race. Instead she went home with a personal best and the fastest woman title.
