The men's and women's Olympic marathon trials offered great drama for the few who got to see them. The men's trials in Birmingham, Ala., where Lafayette's Alan Culpepper won by five seconds over Meb Keflezighi, and the women's trials in St. Louis, won by Boulder's Colleen De Reuck, had sparse crowds even though they seemingly had built-in audiences with citizen's marathons the next day.
