(Chamonix Resort News) Clear and sunny skies greeted fifteen-hundred runners for the Mont Blanc Marathon in the town of Chamonix. First and second place were separated by one second at Christophe Assailly won the hot and hilly marathon with a time of 4 hours 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

Chamonix Mont Blanc marathon and cross events this weekend
(Chamonet.com) The Chamonix Mont Blanc Marathon will be held on Sunday over a grueling forty-two kilometer course that traverses several mountains surrounding the town of Chamonix. Over 1500 runners are expected to participate.

Marathon du Mont Blanc Running Weekend
(Chamonix Chamonet) Over fourteen hundred runners ran the 2008 Mont Blanc Marathon in hot conditions and a course that notably starts in altitude and climbs 1015 meters after the start. Swiss athlete Jean-Yves Rey won the marathon in 3:52. The first woman over the line was French runner Christiane Lacombe in 5:16.

Mont Blanc Marathon subscriptions already up on last year
(Chamonix Chamonet) Chamonix Mont Blanc Marathon, which takes place the weekend of the 28 and 29 June, has attracted double the number of subscriptions compared with the same time last year. Although this year the race will be held in conjunction with the fifth stage of the Salomon-Endurance National Trail Challenge offering a mix of traditional marathon with a mountain race, the 42.195km marathon has a 2240m of positive height gain and 1190m of descending height change. also, new for this year, race organizers routed the race to take place on more trails than asphalt and limited the number of food and drink posts halved to four with in the hope of making the course more authentic.

Marathon du Mont Blanc
(Charmonix Resort News) More than 2000 runners will be ready for the off this Sunday as Chamonix hosts its 5th Mont Blanc Marathon. A gruelling race, even by marathon standards, the route takes competitors on a 42km course from Chamonix to Plan Praz (Brevent mid-station) via, Argentiere, Col des Montets, Vallorcine, Col des Posettes and Le Tour before the final climb to Plan Praz. Taking in a total ascent of 2240m and 1190m of descent, the fastest runners complete the route in about 3 ½ hours.
