Scott Baugh, chairman of the O.C. Marathon, is nearly complete with his deal for the new course for the marathon. More coast line views and a flatter course are the goals. Baugh hopes to make O.C. a destination marathon and show off more towns along the route. The date has also been moved from January to May 3 for the 2009 edition of the 26.2 mile race.

Kassahun Kabiso of Ethiopia edged out defending champion Christian Hesch of Morro Bay, CA at mile eighteen to win the OC Marathon in a time of 2:23.46. Charles Kiplagat finished second and Deresse Deniboba was third. In the women's race Cheryl Foody of Aliso Viejo won setting a course record by eight minutes with a time of 2:38:38.

   Coach trains youths for the marathon of life (Orange County Register)
Tom Erikson was inspired to run his first marathon by Robert, a 17-year-old Mexican boy sentenced for assault at the Youth Center at which he worked. Robert expressed interest in running the Los Angeles Marathon and Erikson agreed if three conditions were met. Robert complied and the two ran the Los Angelese Marathon together. Erickson has instituted physical fitness and running programs for youngsters at the Orange County Probation Department's Youth Guidance Center in Santa Ana.

   A Second Marathon is His Goal for Orange County (The Orange County Register)
Runner and former financier, Steve Robinson, has tentatively schedule a Marathon for December 7th, 2003. Robinson has single-handedly planned this new race to start at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, through Newport Beach, Tustin, Irvine, Santa Ana and Garden Grove, finishing at Edison Field. He thought Orange County could use yet another, so he made one, and he's calling it the Orange County California Marathon.
