Discounted registration prices are now available for the Little Rock Marathon which is expecting a sell-out once again. Gina Marchese Pharis, co-executive director of the event, has announced this years theme "Marathoners Gone Wild".    Rare medical condition cited in death of Little Rock marathon runner from Kaukauna (Associated Press)
Dr. Stephen J. Erickson, state crime lab pathologist, stated the Adam Nickel had microscopically small heart arteries that tended to restrict the flow of blood. This conditioned coupled with the electrolyte imbalance common among marathon finishers contributed to his untimely death.

   Doctors: Ark. marathon runner died of rare mix of heart condition, electrolyte abnormalities (International Herald Tribune)
Dr. Charles Kokes stated the the 27 year old Adam Nickel passed away from complications due to electrolyte imbalance and multifocal small coronary artery fibromuscular dysplasia. The medical examiner stated that this was something that could not have been detected in a regular exam.

Results from an initial examination of the body of Adam Nickel have been inconclusive. Nickel was the twenty seven year old Wisconsin man who collapsed and died after finishing the 2008 Little Rock Marathon. The Pulaski County coroner's office says more tests will be done that could take three to four weeks.

   Cause of Little Rock Marathon runner's death still unknown (Appleton Post-Crescent)
Adam Nickel, 27, a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who died after finishing the 2008 Little Rock Marathon. An autopsy was performed on Monday night, but the results have not been released. This was Nickel's sixth marathon.

Officials said that there is no word yet on what caused the death of a Little Rock Marathon runner, Adam Nickel. The Wisconsin man who runs many races per year died after completing the 26.2 mile race in 3:02:26. Nickel, only twenty-seven years old, was a graduate student studying pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Heath White ran the 2008 Little Rock Marathon with his eleven month old Paisley who was diagnosed with down syndrome. Team White received permission from race co-director Geneva Hampton to run with the stroller, which isn’t permitted in USATF sanctioned race events.

It was a little more than three hours after the 2008 Little Rock Marathon began that runner Adam Nickel looked tired but kept walking after crossing the finish line. He collapsed and emergency crews quickly began administering CPR. Nickel was twenty-seven years old from Wisconsin.

Emergency crews tried to resuscitate one man who collapsed after crossing the finish line of the 2008 Little Rock Marathon. Medical crews were not able to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead. They are not releasing the man's name until his next of kin has been notified.

The 2008 Little Rock Marathon attracted thousands to the streets of the city on a warmer day than expected. Tamrat Ayalew, formerly of Ethiopia, now of Atlanta, Georgia won the men's race in a little over than 2:20. Ayalew had recovered from being shot in the knee.

Little Rock Marathon race director Bill Torrey said he doesn't expect personal records from the winners of the race but he is hopeful for some fast times. John Rotich of Kenya has a best of two hours and twelve minutes coming into Sundays race. Fellow Kenyan William Serem has crossed the tape in two hours and fifteen minutes and will compete with Ethiopian Tamrat Ayalew who won last years Marine Corps Marathon in two hours and twenty-two minutes and eighteen seconds.
