Lark leads to Mount Desert Island marathon victory
(Mount Desert Islander) The first female finisher of the Mount Desert Island Marathon, Jenna Krajewski, entered the contest on a lark the day before the race. She was in the area hiking and decided to enter for fun. The China, Maine, resident took the top womens slot in the event on Sunday and set a new course record of 3 hours 3 minutes and 2 seconds, beating the old record set in 2007 by Judi Chiavetta by over one minute.

Herr, Krajewski tops at Mount Desert Island Marathon
(Village Soup) The Mount Desert Island Marathon is in it's seventh year and one name has claimed the top spot five out of those seven years. David Herr continues to dominate the men's marathon and his winning time of 2 hours 36 minutes and 45 seconds. His dominance in the race has only been surpassed by the course record of 2 hours 32 minutes and 14 seconds which is held by 2005 champion Judson Cake who opted not to run the race this year.

Vermonts Herr favored in seventh Mount Desert Island Marathon
(Bangor Daily News) Maines fall foliage is hitting its peak and hundreds of marathoners from across North America will hit theirs at Sundays Mount Desert Island Marathon.
The 26.2-mile journey from downtown Bar Harbor to down-town Southwest Harbor starts at 8 a.m. Defending champion David Herr of Vermont returns to defend his title, but some of Maines finest runners, including Eric Rudolph, Andy Beardsley, Steve McCarthy and Robbie Gomez are aiming to unseat the 43-year-old four-time champ.

State's first 'marathon' celebrated with 100th anniversary run
(Portland Press Marathon) The 100th anniversary of Maine's first marathon is commemorated with a 23.26 mile re-creation of the initial event in Rockland, Maine. This August's celebration is not a race, emphasizes event organizer Gary Allen, but a no-entry-fee, group run. Numbers are of little concern to Allen, who notes that he only wants the occasion to be saluted, that after all the race was run by the few in the first place, and that he would happily run by himself, if it came to it.
